    can anyone help me...
i am a lone parent and i have just recieved letter from social welfare office in limerick saying that an officer will be out to me in a couple days usually i get the letter from sligo and this was from limerick but also on yellow paper which confused me!! the father of my child comes up most nights to see her and put her to bed as im having problems, she was also ill recently and he stayed on the sofa for a couple of nights just to make sure she was ok,anyhow im just wondering if anyone else recieved the same sort of letter, they also want my bank statments..i do work part time and i have done a few hours overtime, now my hours have been cut under 16, can the social cut off my money because of this??? and why are they now only coming out, they have given no time or date on the letter and i now feel as though i have to stay home and wait for them..

The One Parent Family scheme is being roled out to local offices, so that is why you got a letter from your local social welfare office. Your claim is probably being handled by your office in Limerick now - I'm presuming you live there?

Your claim has been reviewed, this is normal, so make sure you have all the information required. The onus is on you to inform the Department if your earnings increase or decrease, so your earnings will definitely be reviewed. An weekly average based on your earnings year to date is usually the fairest way.

It may well be that someone reported your ex partner staying overnight on "the sofa" but if this is no longer the case you should be okay, but really, the Inspector may not find this credible.

You should contact them and ask them when they want to visit, as this is highly unusual, you are certainly not expected to stay at home 24/7.

If you have nothing to hide, don't worry. There is a massive crackdown on Social welfare fraud, so the Department is only checking out your status to make sure you are on the correct payment and at the correct rate.

    Hi Op

They do carry out inspections from time to time, I have known of this happening elsewhere, as uoloul has said have everything ready, the other thing I would say is only respond to questions asked, don't volunteer too much information either. If he asks if your ex has stayed overnight, you just need to explain about your child's illness, and if she has been to the doctor re: her illness, give your doctors details so this can be verified.
