Anyone watching this tonight? Tubridy was reading a letter from parents of a school his great-grandfather was teaching in. His great-grandfather was experiencing hassle from the priest running the school and his job was in danger. The parents' letter was one of support for him.
What puzzled me was Tubridy read the letter aloud and it was also simultaneoulsy on screen for us to read. The letter clearly said that the priest in question had abused both Mr Tubridy and "the Boys" in the school. Yet ryan didnt read the letter as was and said that it was only his great-grandfather that had been abused. (all of these references to abuse mean physical abuse to me).
My observation is why did Tubridy leave this out when it was there on screen for us all to see? Is it a case of RTE brushing an uncomfortable revelation under the carpet?
Just something that caught my interest.

I missed the reference you saw; I don't think it would have been "physical abuse" as you think. The priest allegedly wanted the teacher out - he wasn't attacking him physically and so not the boys, either, I would imagine. It is a term of speech from what I understood.

With all thats come out in the wash re the catholic church why do you assume there was no physical abuse?
Either way it still doesnt answer my central question. Physical abuse or not, why was it not mentioned that the schoolchildren were also experiencing the wrath of this priest? I would imagine the parents were more concerned with this rather than the priest's treatment of Tubridy senior?

With respect, I think you are the one assuming it was physical abuse and the parents' comments were all about the teacher and not about the children at all. Nothing was ever proven as the teacher died before it came before the tribunal of the time and the programme was about Ryan Tubridy's forebears so he and the programme were only concerned about him.

With respect if you didnt see the segment how can you say that the parents did not refer to their children in the letter?
I saw the segment and they did say that in the letter. The letter was read aloud and it was ignored. Why not say it?

With respect, the letter referred to Mr Tubridy and the boys being attacked from the altar. There is no mention of physical abuse.

Was Tubridy abused as a child?

I can see the Tabloid headlines. "RTÉ stars sex abuse led to anorexia"!

With respect, I think Mo is correct as far as I can remember the priest was attacking from the altar not physically

I saw all of the programme - I just did not see what you read in the letter (and then told the forum what you saw in the letter) because I was more listening to RT reading it out and his reactions e.t.c... so I stand by what I said in my previous posts about the assumptions you are making.
