They have been doing this with houses too for a couple of years now.

Definitely easy to do and a very good idea

A garage that is trying very hard. Congrats for a new approach. They have done a lot of work on their own website and it looks well. That car in the link is on the website with pictures only for about 20 grand. No link to its youtube video at all. After all that work they could have stuck the link on the site with the car.

A shameless plug: We bought our avensis from the garage in kildare last year and they could'nt be more helpful.

It's been done for a while now I remember seeing these guys do it before the summer http://www.carzone.ie/search/Hyundai/Getz/%E2%82%AC4950-Wi/200907191786192/advert?channel=CARS

and I'm sure there was some other place also it's a great idea gives you a good look at the car before you decide to travel to the dealer
hopefully more guys will do it

Great idea I wish the bigger dealers would do this, in high definition. Like BMW.

Everyone's saying it's a good idea but does nobody remember this site and how it never took off... http://www.carshowonvid.ie/

Yeah, but you don't need to set up yet another new car site - just link to youtube from your existing one.

glad to see irish companies finally doing this. Alot of Japanese car dealers do this as standard practice when selling you a car, they also show tests with the car running etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,465 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

their site looks well but it's a pity their search conditions don't seem to work. I wanted to search for diesel cars and it's returning a lot of petrol engines! I hope they can work on cars better than they work on web development:D

OK, I stand a tad corrected, the search returned no results so by default it returned everything on the database, i hate when search engines do that by default, if there is nothing found for my criteria I'd like to be informed clearly.

It will only ever be as good as the camera person - that's the problem.

Some dealers find it difficult enough to take pictures:

Great idea. Something very simple to do but adds a lot of value. It's always nice to get a good look at a car before deciding if you want to see it or not. I hate when carzone ads have tiny fuzzy pictures with the wrong aspect ratio, it puts me right off the car straight away.

When this site was launched over a year ago dealers said that videos would never work!

Perhaps it was a bit ahead of it's time? It's being rebranded and will be part of another video site soon.

Surfing again today and saw another one on Cloghrans website I thought it was going to be a strip show when I heard the music !!!! :D

Joking a side fair play to the few dealers who are making an effort

Dealers in the US and France have been putting videos of cars for sale on Youtube for a good while but it is good to see some effort from Irish dealers. It's a big difference to the camera phone pics you see alot.

Intertesting, basically a video tour of the car before ya go to look at it.

Great idea methinks but very long video, i got bored watching it.
Can these really be the only 2 dealers doing it?

Fair play to Cloghran Car Sales and the dealers doing this. If I was buying a car I would definitely use this.

Barry White can make an Astra look sexy!! Toyota should start using him for their ads!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,189 ✭✭✭PADRAIC.M

yeah good idea alright, fitzpatricks seem to be pushing out all the stops to up their game, didn't they have the munster rugby team there couple of weeks ago? Fair play.

A good idea very poorly executed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,809 ✭✭✭✭smash

If I'm looking at a video of a car I'd want commentary regarding spec and condition!

Although regarding that astra video, the first thing you notice is the badly scuffed front bumper, then the damaged rear wheel arch and then the dirty interior... and that's only on the side they show you! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,374 ✭✭✭Saab Ed

Excellent concept but shaky hands make it look so cheap. I think it would be worth having someone do it properly , like the old autotrader photographer who used to come round to take pictures of your car. As I said , excellent concept but at the start it really does look like one of those yob joy riding videos starting off.

I don't think I'd want some Salesman waffleing about the spec of the car I'd rather concentrate on the video, and it's usually listed in the ad anyway.

As for the condition of the car it's 8 years old at least they aren't trying to hide anything and I'm sure you could use the condition as a bargining tool

Wkd imports have been doing this for most of their stock for some time too. Although I think he gets the majority of his cars from Powervehicles in Japan and he uses their videos.

I've bought 3 cars off Ray in Cloghran Cars, a nicer guy u couldn't meet. Fair play love the video idea ;nice to see somebody with innovative sales techniques as opposed to badgering customers like some other dealers. Keep up the good work !!!

Thanks for the feedback , it is still quite amateur as i am doing this with just a camera , i was considering commentary but felt it may be a bit tacky (with a big country accent !). We would consider getting a professional but until we see some evidence that people are actually getting to see these viseos we cant justify the cost. Any comments or suggestions will be taken on board,
    Regards,
    Brian Doolan.

It's definitely a great thing that you're doing Brian, well done. I agree commentary should be left out, people will make up their own minds whether to go see the car from the videos. To gauge its effectiveness, perhaps ask customers viewing your cars if they have seen the videos on your website?

One suggestion would be to upgrade to a full HD camera (actually, maybe it already is?), assuming your customers actually view the videos. But it does look good as it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 376 ✭✭samsamson

    Fantastic idea.

I agree that commentary is not needed - put the specs in the description for each car's individual video. That's enough info for people to decide to come and view it or not.

I don't think music is needed either. The video shouldn't be trying to entertain us...we just want to see the car!

I hope every garage starts doing this.
