    Hi,

I'm with hibernian car insurance and I 100% forgot to tell them I had two penalty points when renewing my insurance. What are the repurcusions of such a mistake ?

I'm two months into my new policy and I have had them for about a year now. I renewed my policy for the year two months ago.

Does this mean my insurance is basically null and void if anything were to happen ?

Reason I forgot is I was away for the year and then came back.

I'd say contact them a.s.a.p. and tell them. I thought the insurance companies had access to some sort of database that allowed them to check individual penalty points.

I don't think they'll be too hard on you for 2 points, but bets to have everything in the open.

Ring them and tell them, it shouldn't affect the price.

I'm with AIG and when I told them about getting 2 points they just thanked me for letting them know but the premium will not be affected. I had the points for about 4 months at the time.

I'm with Hibernian too, and it clearly states on my policies that failure to disclose penalty points will result in a larger (€2000 or €2500, I can't remember which) excess being applied in the event of a claim. I'd tell them, the worst they can do is to reclaim the discount they gave you for having no penalty points.

As far as I remember your insurance wont be affected until you get 6 penalty points.

Make sure to notify your insurance company though all the same.

Thanks for the replies. So I just ring them up, tell them the truth ?

And it should be cool then ?
