CDRW/DVD drive

    Evenin' All,

My cd drive keeps opening and closing for no reason and won't work. My computer is a Dell Dimension 8400, spent half the afternoon trying to find one on the dell website. Rang them but they just fobbed me off.

Anyone know where I can get a new cdrw/dvd drive and is it much hassle putting one into a desktop? My computer is out of warranty so not worried about fiddling around with it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Opening and closing for no reason, could be a virus.

    yeah its a virus!!!

same problem here at work, do a thorough virus and malware scan, and if all else fails, see if you can do a system restore. its not a hardware problem at all, its a software ;)

Does a system restore revert everything to factory settings? Would I lose all my files and software?

Truthfully theres many flavors of passable free antivirus out there wether you like Avast or AVG or etc. but not having one is inviting trouble. Im a bit of a power user so I like to keep it simple with a payware full security suite.
