i guess that this technically should be in the 4x4 forum but there does'nt seem to be a lot of discussion of new models there!

Anyway, its a fairly common car on the roads here so its more of a road car:)

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Toyota-Land-Cruiser/243225/

Not really sure if i like it all that much, doesnt seem like much of an evolution on the current model, Side profile looks a bit more macho though i suppose. Interior isnt much of a change either. Looks kinda cheap IMO, then again so does the one on the current model

I especially dont like the face
    Toyota-LandCruiser-1499910719487612x408.jpg
Looks like a Terios or something..

It has the same 3.0D4D as the old model, uprated to 171bhp, and co2 emissions of 214g/km, which are fairly good really.34.9mpg is good too. That seems to be though with a 5 speed auto. Theres no mention of a manual in the autocar piece, nor is there a mention of a short wheelbase version. There is a mention of a 3 door version on Netcarshow though, so there definitely is one:)

As ever, decent pictures on netcarshow: http://www.netcarshow.com/toyota/2010-land_cruiser/

    Opinions?

Gotta' say that exact model looks very nice,The black really suits it and the Wide arches over the front and read wheels gives it a more tough look

I like how they're moving away from the more curvy older model

Not much different but you know that its going to be reliable. If you think Toyota are going to be at the forefront of styling please revise your opinion by looking at the Yaris, the Corolla, the Avensis and the humdinger of humdingers the Yaris Verso ;)

    +1

Rotten yoke....but I never liked them anyway. Looks like they farmed out the dash board design to the Koreans with its Range Rover rip off :D

Dashboard looks like a Lexus hand-me-down, and the vehicle itself looks like Pat Kenny. Bo-ring. The farmers will lap it up as per usual though! At least the Landcruiser is not the usual yummy-mummy mobile, people driving them usually do so for a purpose.

I see the 3 litre D4D engine is still terrible then. Will it still sound worse than a tractor too? 171bhp is dismal from a 3 litre turbo diesel.

Ah thats unfair :pac:. Its all about torque in the right places. Much as I dont like them I have to defend their ability to do the hard work other SUV,s just cant do. A Cummins 6 cylinder 10 litre engine ( found in trucks and buses around the world ) has little over 300 brake but its ability to pull heavy loads is'nt hindered by it. An X5 might even have more torque on paper but its how usable that torque is at the right time. You can bet which machine farmers would rather hook a tri axle trailer full of hay to.

That can't be a new design - looks like its 5 years out of date before its even launched...

Now now, i know people who called even the old model "one of the fastest yokes on the road":D:rolleyes::pac:

Thats bad. Current one alot better. Sharper styling etc. If the current one was to be repacing that new one, I would be thinking they had done a fair job.

Just looks like a lazy evolution of the current 7 year old design, the in your face centre console is horrible too. It will more than likely appeal to it's target audience though.

Would be in agreement with the geneal consensus of the thread. There is certainly nothing graceful or elegant looking about that yoke. Think the outgoing model is more pleasing on the eye. No doubt it will be a purposeful workhorse as ever though I'm sure.

Anybody the launch date of the 7 seater version? cost? I hear there will be no Short wheel Base versions and all will be Auto. Does this mean the end of all landcruiser Commericals, it would suit me as they are as common as muck these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 700 ✭✭✭Theanswers

No you can have the five door commercial and there's nothing run with the auto. I'd prefer it 2 the manual!!

What a horrendous looking interior! Horrible mish-mash of colours and materials. not to mention the redesigned playstation controller on the steering wheel

How much is the VRT on the 7 seater version Model. I recon it could be cheaper to buy from the north new, opinions?

I'd say VRT will be quite high, given the emmisions.

I'll leave it to all the builders to buy them

Still could work out cheaper then buying off a southern dealer. I will investigate further!

And Farmers! every second 4x4 on the road is a Landcruiser these days. In terms of reliablitly does anybody know which is the best, i have 2006 landcruiser and it has cost a few euros to keep right, injectors, powersteering pump and wheel bearings 3 times. 150000 km covered.

Based on the pricing of the current model, you are probably looking at €20,000 - €25,000 for VRT.

Won't know if that works out cheaper than Irish prices until Toyota release their figures, but it probably will. I work that out to be around €67,500 for an LC4 landed, taking the €20,000 VRT figure. Can't see that being sold for less than €70,000 from an Irish dealer.

    Supply could be another matter......

Make sure you get the sump out and the oil pickup cleaned at your next service.

There's a SWB version being sold... somewhere (Australia?):

    2010-Toyota-LandCruiser-Prado-Three-Door-Rear-Side-View-800x582.jpg

I'd be surprised if they didn't bring it here seeing as it has sold well in commercial form in the past (unlike in the UK).

No SWB??????:( No Manual???????:( Come on Toyota!

wheel bearings 3 times. 150000 km covered.

Which bearings have you had to replace? Is the jeep used for heavy work?

Our Land Cruiser is a 1997 model with the older 3 litre diesel and an auto transmission.
We have 165000 km on the clock (a Japanese model), and have yet to have a problem with it. I service it myself.

I would love to get a newer one, but tbh there is no point as the one we have still runs great.

I think you see so many on the roads because reliability wise nothing comes close to the Toyota.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,366 ✭✭✭ninty9er

The auto transmission has been 6 speed since 2006 IIRC, but now they're reverting to 5??

This isn't hugely relevant to anyone anymore now :(

The passenger model never compared to the likes of the XC90 for refinement or packaging, and the commercial model was the only real seller in Ireland. Given the deals they're doing on the old model I can't see there being many 10 reg new models on the roads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭Panda Moanium

From what I understand there is such a stockpile of the old models unsold in the country that it is unlikely to be introduced here before the end of 2010.

In Australia this car is called a Land Cruiser Prado or just Prado, I have a 2008 GXL model. But this model hit the street last November I was inviited to a test drive (Grande model) just before xmas.

Also I noticed that the Prado in Ireland does not have the Spare wheel on the the back like in Oz.
