im sure this has happened to many people a few times so post here all the major mis haps things have happened to you before.

today was supposed to be the first day back to college for everyone, all i got was a letter to come in for monday 14th of september, grand..came in again like everyone else walking around like a headless chicken finding out where to go, so eventually i found the timetable and some friends which at this stage were quite pissed off for the lack of info givin to us, place was MOBBED with people, more so than usual which was strange, we waited for the first hour for our lecturer..no sign, we bumped into a lecturer we had last year and asked what the hell is going on,his reply was

'there is a meeting later to discuss the story with timetables and class times and also the government are cutting staff by 3%, he went on saying that in lue of that situation the numbers in the college have never been so high, the reason why there was so many people going around was because the college had ignored contacting the first years which were to come in 2 weeks ago, email system is renewed in the place so nobody was able to log into it and check the emails, so college didnt send anyone an email,'

he asked us to go up and see some person who is head of the college, so we went to him and he said he is fairly sure we are back next thursday, so we said fine but he said go and check with the head of department, he got an email saying were back on october 5th! and we have an induction day on thursday! no one had a clue about this, one of my friends came down from donegal and payed a months rent already to hear this, she is heading back to donegal for the month..absolutely sickining!
college failed to contact all its 7 or so thousand students and there is absolute uproar!

Colleges tend to be the least flexible places when it comes to their organisation, I suspect the 3% is hitting them hard.

It's posts like these that make me wish I had the "perspective gun" from that horrible American remake of the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy".
Some people need an enforced reality check.

OP which college are you in? That's sounds like a right f*ck up, especially for your friend from Donegal. i know if that had happened to me I would have gone ballistic.

I'm back in college in Thursday myself. I went back last Wednesday to get my Timetable expecting to be back in the next day but was told that I was starting on Thursday at 1:00pm. But this isn't a suprise, I know from experience that colleges tend to have a lot of managerial problems, especially on the month of September as it's proberly the busiest time of the year for them.

Menial jobs pay the rent and subsidise your "higher level of education"

Don't be talking to me about screw-ups. Like, I went for a cup of tea to the work canteen earlier and had been looking forward to have a twix all afternoon as a reward. Went down there, got my cup, headed for the vending machine....guess what? No twix. B*stards. Like, what a screw-up!

But they did have drifters so I took one of them instead, and I didn't feel so bad then.

    I feel your pain.

You may have noticed I was replying to a guy saying the OP should get a job instead of get a higher eduction, in a recession, with massive unemployment.

It tends to be arseholes that spite people who go to college, it tends to be ignorant people who would think dropping out of college to get a job unqualified, now, of all fcuking times, is what people should do?

    lol

    lol

son, i certainly dont spite people that go to obtain a degree, or educate themselves, i myself have had my time and qualified myself in 2 particular fields.

I do however feel that holding the opinion that any job is menial is disingenious to people that hold them, and i feel those comments are "stuck up"

I don't think anyone said all of that.

It tends to be arseholes and horse fumblers and occasionally people that have been on boards for years that ought to have a better idea of what forum they are posting in that take everything wai 2 srysly and accordingly, throw all their toys out of the pram and beat their chest.

    We need another war.

So you went into college and found out that you're not back yet.

Did you not just buy a rake of cans, get a few spliffs going and kick back with a Playstation in a nearby house for the rest of the week?

That's what we would have done in college.

Pffftt.... students these days - they ain't what they used to be.

was just scrolling down to say that it HAD to be LIT. They're the biggest bunch of clusterfcuks in the country, a sham of a college. Really really dont give a sh1t about the students, no forward planning at all, just let people turn up and figure it out for themselves. this wouldnt be the first year this has happened OP
