UPC phone problem

I am using UPC's phone package but I get no dial tone every few days. To fix it all I have to do is reboot the modem, not ideal . The broadband,TV working fine its just the phone causing problems. They replaced the cisco 2425 with another, also changed phone, but the phone still stops working after a few days. Does anyone else have this problem? The technician is trying to boost signal today hoping that will solve it. Hopefully it will or maybe the modem is as bad as people say :)

Do you use any VOIP devices? I setup a VOIP phone, and it interfeered with the UPC phone line. I couldn't receive calls at all.

Does anyone know if the UPC phone line works in-band or out of band (i.e. does it use you internet bandwidth when you make/receive a call) ?

No other VOIP devices in the house. Probably be tomorrow now before they check the cables. Then another few days before I know its been fixed :)

NTL servers have been known to be a bit flaky, maybe worth a chance to try these.

Changing your DNS for your UPC broadband connection will have no effect whatsoever on the phone service. The phone service is configured within the router, which is configured by UPC themselves.

OP, sounds like you have a weak or flaky cable signal. I had awful trouble a while back with UPC, problems exactly as you describe. Had a technician fiddle at the green cabinet at the bottom of my street, upped the amplification from the feeder amp and have had almost flawless service ever since. Hopefully if they do this to your line, it'll sort your issue!

I've had the same problem since moving to UPC less than a month ago.

I called customer service yesterday and got a very helpful response.

They checked the signal and said that there should not be a problem at my end so they believe there might be a problem at their switch.

I got a call back about an hour later from another person at UPC confirming that they were going to monitor the line for 2 days and will call me tomorrow afternoon/evening.

    Hopefully it's an easy fix...
