Appeal for volunteers

This is aimed particularly at Boards AC members, but everyone here is encouraged to help out.

Like many other sports, athletic competition only survives due to the time given by volunteers in helping an event run smoothly. As most of us here enter races on a regular enough basis we have benefitted directly from the time and effort given by these volunteers. As a result we should feel obliged to give some of our time back in return.

Every event needs volunteers, but as a club Boards AC have picked two that we would particularly like to see club members involved in. Of course, it would be great to see as many boardsies as possible volunteering in these, and is a good opportunity for you to meet your fellow posters.

The first event is a very high profile one - the European Cross Country Championships. The Championships have an appeal on their website for volunteers, and we'd like to help out. The extent to which you volunteer depends on the level of time you have available on the weekend of December 13th. They're looking for a variety of roles from media liaison right the way through to logistics. Further details on their website.

The second event is also aimed at everyone, but particularly those participating for Boards AC in the Dublin Novice XC. The Intermediate XC is a few weeks later and we should return the favour by helping this run smoothly. PM me if you have time to spare on November 29th for the event which will be taking place in Phoenix Park.

Naturally there are numerous other events crying out for volunteers. The Dublin Marathon is also worth mentioning, as these needs an extensive number of volunteers at registration, throughout the course and at the start/finish areas. Contact the organisers through the Dublin Marathon website.

I'm happy to help out at the intermediate. Regards the euros I'll be there but with my camera so if they need help outside of the actual race times, I'm happy to help.

Yep, volunteers are the lifeblood of our sport. Literally 99.95% of people in the sport in Ireland are volunteers. We need them at all levels. The more people that can help at anything, the better.
