    Hi

I am thinking of getting a PS3 but dont know if I really should as I dont really know much about it. Can some kind souls give me the heads up? Some questions I have that need answering......

I only have a normal TV, do I need a LSD or HD TV for the PS3 to get the experience?

I only have Dial up so wont be using the PS3 'online' am I missing much here? I only really want the Ps3 for my own gaming.

I gonne go for a slim, is this better than the big consol or is the only difference is the size? Does size matter? ;)

Can you watch ordinary DVDs on the PS3 and play PS2 games?

I really would appreciate some genuine persons on here to give me some guidance as this is a big purchase which could add up to 5/6 hudred if I need the HD TV also?

    Thanks,

    master of farts

An HD TV is not essential. You can still use the old CRT TVs and they will do the job. I had one for over a year before getting a new HD LCD TV. It will not be perfect but it will work fine.

If you only want the PS3 for gaming on your own then your not missing much with having no broadband internet. The vast majority of games have plenty of single player content to keep you happy.

The slim version is just as good really. It consumes less power so will be cooler than the original PS3. It (in my opinion) doesn't look as nice but that doesn't really matter at the end of the day. The functionality is all the same, except that you can't install Linux on the slim.

Yes you can watch ordinary DVDs. No you can't play PS3 games.

LSD will give you quite a different experience alright. ;):D

That is a pretty crappy PS3 if you can't play PS3 games on it!

At the moment you can't play PS2 games on a PS3 [unless its an early 60GB model]. However there are rumours that a future firmware update will allow this.

I play on a fairly big 4:3 CRT TV and in some ways it's better than a big "budget" LCD TV. I've noticed on some big tellys the colours can be very faded and some games look like they're passing through a filter of vaseline they're so soft.
Obviously a decent LCD is the way to go but I wouldn't panic about getting one.

Sony like to tell people to buy the PS3, buy the HDTV, and get the broadband in to get the full experience. And it's true that all these extras enhance the experience to a degree.

The reality though, is that you can get 90% of the same experience if you don't have the internet or HDTV and only stick to the single player content.

Fallout 3 is a good example for this, since the game is a single player only online multiplayer doesn't factor in. And it's such a good game you'll ignore the fact that it's not high-def! Bioshock is the same!
