I applied 2 years ago and was given a €1500 overdraft no questions asked. My step dad started as a mature student last year and applied and had to get a guarantor for an overdraft of€350 so i think with the recession they are a lot harder to get. But I will say be careful i thought an overdraft was a good idea and since i got it i have been in arrears with my account so make sure you only apply for what you can really afford.
