ye I think the magnetic field in that area screws with the instrumentation and since those planes were very low on fuel by the time they got near their destination if they went of course it would be disaster. the bbc article says that theyre was also major aviation design flaws at the time.

Im not sure how many planes go missing these days, I doubt many do now.

what do people think it is anyway?

well there are people that reckon its a portal or vortex.
used by aliens to move to and from earth.

i think also i have read some people think its a key to hollow earth somehow.
not sure the connection exactly with that one.

i dont know what to think it could be :)
most likely a magnetic problem or something is blocking or twisting the magnetic field under that region of water, like metals or magnetic rock/meteor,
or if there was a giant spaceship/station underwater there it could be causing interferance :D

Well when you look at the actual facts you find that the Bermuda triangle does not have a higher chance of accident or disappearance than anywhere else.
This is confirmed by the largest insurer of shipping traffic, Lloyd's of London as well as the US Navy.
    http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq8-1.htm

Most of the "mysterious disappearances" have NSTB reports and aren't mysterious at all.

There are no magnetic anomalies or wormholes or aliens in the Bermuda Triangle, just a lot of hype and myth.
