Broadband Options

I have just moved to the countryside, in an area where I cannot get fast broadband with my O2 dongle-thingy. I get decent Edge speeds, but not real broadband. I have a telephone line and am close to the local (broadband-enabled) exchange.

What are my options? Do I have to go with eircom or will other companies provide broadband on my eircom telephone line?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have always had wireless broadband up to now.

You don't have to stick with eircom, but your line does have to pass the test.

Have been told by eircom engineer that line is good, and I am less than 2km from exchange.

Really just trying to find out what other companies offer a good broadband package on my landline?

Most, if not all, will be reselling Eircom packages but before any one can answer you can you please define good?
    • Are we talking good as in downloading 200GB of legal content every month?
    • Good as in 30ms pings to UK game servers to frag the opposition?
    • Good as in a good package price for phone and broadband?
    • Good as in the customer/billing support will not make you write letters to mommy crying because of the pain they have caused you?
    • Good as in quickly set up?
    • Good as in giving you a modem you can do some nice stuff with and have techies who're not sitting in India and know what a command prompt is how to use it?

Depending on which "Good" you want to tick the recommandations would be different :)

    My version of "good" is:
    • downloading say 30-50GB Max of legal content every month. Probably no more than 15GB per month average.
    • Good as in a good broadband price
