Wheel seized on 98 Megane

    Hi all,
I'm wondering whether anyone can help me with a problem I have mith my car. I own a 98 megane (hatchback) that I use occasionally (I'm normally on a motorbike) and went I went to take it out of the drive last Thursday evening I had a bit of trouble getting it moving, it turns out that the left back wheel on the car has seized completely on me. I took the wheel off and had a look around for anything obvious that could be blocking it but didn't see anything.
Has anyone had or heard of a problem like this before? I'd like to know whether there's anything I can to to remedy the situation before calling a mechanic and getting it towed.
The car has ABS and it hadn't been used in around a week before I tried taking it out and all the other wheels are turning as normal.

I would say that a brake shoe lining has come away from its metal backing and is jamming the drum. I have seen this happen a few times. A new set of brake shoes is needed. The car might still move if you give it some welly, try moving it forwards and backwards to see if it unsticks.

Thanks for that, I'll try get it moving this afternoon and if I do I'll drive it straight to a mechanic in case it seizes again!

had the same thing happen on a clio, brake shoes siezed to the drum, try rocking the car back and forth to free it up, get it down to a garage and have the brake shoes checked...

If it has normal "steel" wheels as opposed to alloys then maybe a little persuasion with a sledgehammer can help. Meganes are a bugger for this and from experience new shoes doesn't always cure the problem either.

Edit: Just realised, nobody has said its a stuck handbrake OP!

Used to get this the odd time on an old saxo I had, rocking the car backwards and forwards freed it up no problem. Was pretty rare to happen, and only when happened after it had been sitting up for a while.
