I got through my first every 10k run yesterday. I am delighted as I didn't think I would manage to run/jog the whole way, but I did. I'm not the fastest runner, but as I enjoyed it so much, I am thinking of entering a 10 mile run in 5 weeks time (for Charity). Am I being unrealistic?

I dont think its too unrealistic. Its all about pacing yourself. I reckon a bigger show stopper would be leg pains if you havent done a 10 mile distance before, so try an get a few 6 - 9 mile runs in between now and then to get yourself used to running the long distance, ideally building up the distance gradually. If you do find it tough on race day, you can always walk for a bit, worst case. Id say go for it.

I did the 10k run yesterday too. It was so hot! I'm hoping to do the 10 miler next month too. With some proper serious training I think I can do it. Going to build on the 6 miles from yesterday and add a mile each week to the long run at the weekend. That should see me up to the ten miles. Hopefully it won't be as warm on the day as it was yesterday!

Thanks luvly lady, it sure was very warm yesterday!! Did you enjoy the run? I'm pretty new to running, it was my first one, and didn't know what to expect on the day, but I really enjoyed it (after the 2 mile mark).

I did the same run 2 years ago and managed to do it 9 minutes faster this time so I'm delighted with the improvement. The route is very hilly, although at least the downhills were handy enough! Have you seen the route for the 10 miler? I hope it's not as hilly!

I didn't think two water stations over the whole route was enough yesterday. I was longing for water at times!

Well done you, 9 mins better is great!! You must have been chuffed :D

I agree with you about the water stations, but I brough a small bottle with me, so after the first station, I didn't bother going to the second one. I don't think I would have managed without my bottle tbh.

I felt awful for the first couple of km's but I felt better one I got on the drag up past Newtown school.

I don't know the route for the 10 miler, but I have heard rumours that they are going to open the new bridge for the day for the run.

I hate having to carry anything with me so didn't bring water, I was so sorry that I didn't! The run on the new bridge would be great, the new road would be lovely and flat so I'd like that!

I found these handy sized 330ml bottles of water in Tesco - perfect for yesterday ;)

I've just been told that the route will be finalised in two weeks time. Hoping it will be pretty flat!!
