Wiped a good bit of oil out of the cap area of my 05 Passat diesel and it`s back again, anyone know if it`s anything serious or maybe I just overfilled it a bit a month or so ago when I put some oil in?

    Thanks.

Did you check what the oil level is like in the car?

The 'gasket' around the cap may be perished/gone.
Anyhow, I would check the level before doing anything else (I'm surprised that you are obviously looking under the bonnet yet not checking your oil level!)

The oil level level looks just right, maybe could be thread worn in the cap, Thanks , as long as it ain`t nothing too serious.

Its just the seal on the filler cap - a new cap is about 7 quid from the dealers
