Roundabout with 3 lanes

I have a full licence, but I have no problem in admitting that I don't know everything when it comes to driving.

What exactly are the rules when it comes to roundabouts with three lanes? There is a roundabout near me that has 3 lanes, and 5 exits (arranged like in the diagram below)
    roundabout.jpg
So say I'm approaching from the bottom, and I want to take the third exit (the roughly 1-o-clock exit), which lane do I use? There are only two on approach to the roundabout, so obviously I use the right lane there. On the roundabout, there are three, so do I go into the most-right lane? Do I move into the middle lane on approaching the second exit?

I would really appreciate if someone could explain the rules to me, regarding three-laned roundabouts!

    Thanks in advance!

I would go with the middle lane.

Usually they'd have markings wouldnt they?

    1st lane for exit 1 and 2
    2nd lane for exit 2
3rd lane for all subsequent exits?,thats how theyre usually marked arent they?

    Or 1st for exit 1
    2nd for 2 and 3
    and so on

It's difficult to know without seeing the markings on the roundabout. 3 lane roundabouts vary considerably and the standard rules are usually followed by "unless otherwise directed".

Example - on some, the left lane is dedicated to the first exit only while on others it may be used for the 1st or 2nd exit.

What roundabout is it (and as you're a GE Mod, you might throw up an image! ;))

    Thanks for all the answers.

A good suggestion by Wishbone Ash - here is a Google Maps link to the roundabout in question (link) - the photo doesn't provide that much detail though.

I can't remember the markings that were on the roundabout. I don't remember any markings on the roundabout at all but in hindsight there probably was - it would be very confusing for motorists unfamiliar with the area if there wasn't. For anyone who knows it, it is the roundabout north of Dundalk that connects the Dundalk bypass with the M1 motorway, and also with the Newry road and Carlingford/Greenore road.

By the way, I hope I am still allowed post questions in this forum although I am not technically a 'Learner' driver.

I'm not familiar with it but I'd imagine that it should be approached in the right lane. After passing the first exit, move to the centre lane and subsequently to the left lane after the next exit for leaving at the 3rd one and, of course exercising due care and attention all the time particularly in relation to blind spots..

Of course! Most learning occurs after passing the test.
