I've been having a problem with my hinges on my laptop, it got so bad i could not close the lid of my laptop. So tonight i finally decided to take it apart (just the screen) and i found its not actually the hinges, its some metal part attached to the hinge that is broken. This metal part should be stuck on and should not become loose, there is no way to stick it back. I've tried glue, but the force when i shut the laptop lid is forcing the metal part to pop back out of place!!! Time for a new laptop i'd say :D

Hmmm, so the laptop wont close properly? Will the screen stay open fine?

What laptop is it? My Inspiron 9300 had the hinges come loose, one screw snapped due to the extra stress. You can buy these parts on ebay cheaply.

The screen is fine if i keep it open, but i need it for college and i cant be walking around with it open. Its not the screws, the hinges are fine, it is something attached to the hinge that is broken and if it becomes loose it can not be stuck on again. This metal part is stuck on with 3 smaller attachements that i think were welded on, but one of the metal attachements has broken off, so i cant stick a metal attacement back on. It needs to be welded back on.

Sounds like the inspiron 6400. Replacing the rear cover should sort you out.
