i need u for 5 days but can only pay 3??

    Hi All,

    My boss put me on a 3 day week almost 12 weeks ago.. he has now come back to me saying that he needs me to work the five full days again but can only afford to pay me for three??? What are my rights here. Can i refuse this? and if so would he need to pay me redundancy. im 8 years in the job.

    Of course you can refuse. By law he must pay for every minute you work. Tell him you'll happily do what he'll pay for.

    Do consider though that if the business is on a turn around, it might be beneficial to do some more work and see, perhaps on a bonus basis. You can refuse, but evaluate the circumstances unique to your employment.

    Thats a good idea, depending on the size of the company you could come to an agreement that the extra work you do would be in exchange for stock/a share in the company.

    If you are only working 3 days, you may have some welfare entitlements. You would lose these if you were working 5 days.

    Yes indeed... but isn't he effectively cutting my wages by 2/5? i have worked full time there for 8 years and have been put on 3 days 10 - 12 weeks ago?

    Of course he is cutting your wages. If you do not agree and he fires you, you should see your solicitor with regard to making a claim for unfair dismissal and/or breach of contract.
