Using slabs for first floor construction. What depth below slab should suspended ceiling be to accomodate services?

Also thinking of using slabs for attic floor, would depth for suspended ceiling here be less?

Is it usual to insulate slabs or would it be better to let heat rise from ground floor with just roof insulated?

Depends really on the depth of your services. Most of the ones I have completed recently the client wanted 5-6 inches for HRV units and for soil/waste pipes (110mm) also.

Upstairs you could have less of a drop on your ceiling - again any ones i have done i have managed to keep quite high due to a small amount of cables going above them and not much else.

As for using insulated slabs - that is entirely up to you.
Some of the guys here like Mellor or Syd might give you a better answer as regards to U-Valu's or heat transfers etc. I have framed over 100 houses and close to 3-400 apartments and have never used an insulated slab on the ceilings - only one ceiling in a basement in a hospital was done with it in all my time doing it.
    Hope this helps.
