I just spotted this Vonnegut piece:
    http://literature.sdsu.edu/onWRITING/vonnegutSTYLE.html
And it strikes me that I spend far too little time reading interesting pieces about writing style, clarity, structure etc.
    In Sum:

    1. Find a subject you care about

    2. Do not ramble, though

    3. Keep it simple

    4. Have guts to cut

    5. Sound like yourself

    6. Say what you mean

    7. Pity the readers

There's also a great AVClub article on him here.

Brett Easton Ellis also touches on his writing in a very personal way throughout his novels. In particular Lunar Park.
The tender concept of writing about how you write can be a very difficult one. Honest self-appraisal is difficult to come across and always interesting reading.
Are there any resources / pieces / articles you love like this? Great writers writing about writing...
