Advice RE tight disc brakes

Hi there, I picked up my new bike the other day and it comes with Shimano disc brakes.
They're a problem at the moment as they're way too tight - neither the front or the back wheel can spin freely, especially when the sun has been shining on the brakes for a while and they really expand!
So ... had a look at the Shimano tech docs site, and I'm too much of a newbie to get anywhere on it.

Does anyone know how to loosen the brakes a little? Or even somewhere on the interwebs that will show me how to do it?
Not really practical for me to bring it back to the bike shop, so I'm really hoping it's something that I can do myself.

    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    cheers
    utkik
