I am getting sick of this TUF reject who is giving the sport a bad name at the moment. I particularly hate it when he is referred to as a cagefighter by every newspaper under the sun. The proper term is mixed martial artist for fcuk sake.
But I suppose he doesn't deserve the correct title.
Back to the UK MMA scene, do you think that UK scene needs a non tacky, non london gansta, non ave em promotion with no BS.
I think the sport would get more recognition this way for example:
Proper commentators (Maybe put Gareth A Davies in there)
No entourage of Nuts girls. Just have 3 ring card girls.
    Proper entrances for fighters.
    Proper prep area.
    Proper ring announcer.
    Proper camera angles.
    Something along the WEC model.

That's what the MMA fans may want, but the bulk of their tickets are bought by the great unhosed, who want everything you just listed there.

I agree with both the above posts.

I'd love to see a major tv channel (Sky Sports) give financial backing to create an MMA organisation and promote UK and Ireland only MMA. Nothing to rival UFC. Just a regular event in an average sized venue with the best talent available from UK and Ireland only. Set up a UK and Ireland governing body and create titles.

    Easy....:)

What exactly has he done to get a bad image for MMA?

Who he dates in his personal life has nothing to do with MMA. He seems like a nice guy. It's not his fault if he is referred to a cagefighter. If you've an issue with that term, take it up with the shít tabloids who seemingly have a bunch of 12 year old girls writing for them.

And your proof for this is? The reports are varied.
One of Jordan's friends told the Sun: 'The fight broke out because some gipsies were winding up Alex. He didn't retaliate but people he was with got involved. It turned into a riot.'
One of the gipsies involved in the brawl todl the newspaper: 'He wound me up. He's an arrogant w***** who was walking around like he owned the place.

'We had a problem with him and were going to sort it out but he chickened out. He deserves to get his head kicked in.'

Doesn't look like he started it - Looks like they didn't like his attitude and started the fight.

I read that it was a low-budget gangster movie and not a "rape porn". Secondly, it's called "acting". It's not as if he actually raped someone.

The only reason anyone actually gives a hoot about any of this is because he's dating Jordan. That's pretty much the extent of it.

He is a pile of tack though to be fair. Yes to all your suggestions but leave the Nuts girls in. That's about the only area where cagerage kicks ufc's ass!

    PLEASE not gareth A davies!!
very educated on the subject but his jokes are terrible and he irritates me like when he interviewed hoyce gracie and kept using his stooopid non funny 'youre the h(r)olls hoyce of BJJ' while the rest of the ultimate talk panel looked on.You could see they wanted to tar and feather him

ok - first off you seem to be confusing an actor with reality - if a person plays a bad guy in a film that doesnt mean he or she is that person - otherwise look at a film like no holds barred and rethink how you view randy - btw will you be boycotting triggs next fight based on his past? or what about baroni? i could go on but you get the point

second off, all but the gutter tabloids hgave reid as a victim in the brawl who did everything to avoid trouble at the show and was set upon by others determined to start trouble

thirdly to call someone a tuf reject strikes me as the words of a tuf newbie - yes he is an average fighter but does that mean that he should never fight because he was lost his fair share - he is a decent regional fighter who generally has exciting fights and doesnt mind bringing a little colour to the fight with over the top costumes etc but generally comes accross as a classy guy in his fights etc

to some he is can be an ejit - he has that personality but i would take his carry on anyday over the so called hardmen like jeremy bailey but i dont think that he has embarrassed the sport - certainly not by his own actions but if you want to follow a tabloid hatchet job and take it as fact then go ahead

how about his qualification fight on ultimate fighter this year?

I thought it was a good fight....one thing about the guy, he doesn't know when to give up

TUF fights are exhibition matches, so the results dont get leaked before airing. Thus they are not counted on fight records

i checked the other day. think hes 8-8. i imagine i found that i found it on sherdog or failing that wikipedia

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 123 ✭✭wandy

here we go sherdog has it at 8-8-1 http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Alex-Reid-5415

mma universe has it at 8-9-1 http://www.mmauniverse.com/fighters/SS615

and these guys have it at 8-7-1 http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=stats.fighterDetail&pid=0C13C8176CAC1303

guess he aint important enough for anyone to make a solid 100% accurate record. found it funny too that if you type "ALEX REID MMA" into google this thread is like no.5 on the list obviously showing how much coverage he got online haha

Apparently at his last fight jordan was in attendance. Apparently he got his arse kicked but got the decision somehow which disappointed the crowd. Jordan stripped down to change into a dress emblazoned with "THE CHAMP" across it. She then entered the cage and took the mike saying both men were winners. The crowd gave her **** and she started giving them the fingers. Classy or what?

Sad day for MMA when an idiot like Jordan even gets to enter the cage and destroy the good image the sport been building

They showed the fight on skysports last week. He got the decision IMO was wrong i thought he lost it. He was getting booed by the crowd but he was very gracious in his win. He wasnt boastful or bigheaded when interviewed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,282 ✭✭✭Kent Brockman

Reid said in an interview after the show that people will love or hate him but he doesn't mind if the fans are coming to see him win or get beaten as long as the seats are full and the crowd entertained.

He came across well after the fight but looked a total knob in the promo before the fight, maybe its all part of the plan. (Eubank used to do a lot of that in the boxing to draw massive crowds who wanted to see him lose)

It was a kind of (?)K1 fight and it looked like the other guy outpointed him, it would have been very difficult for a title to change hands though on what looked like heavy sparring or an exhibition match over 3 rounds

Think the show is trying to use the Jordan bandwagon for extra publicity and Reid as the champ only helps their cause. Very tacky......
