    Hi,

Mac noob here waiting on my first MBP. I've a large amount of music (150gb) I want to transfer from an external HD to the laptop (I may only transfer half of this or so). What's the best way to do this? Open iTunes and add the folder? The music is in all types of formats so will iTunes recognise and add all these formats? Any other tips on keeping my music collection tidy?

    Thanks in advance,

    P

iTunes will play mp3's and AAC's nothing else. if you have an existing itunes library you can just copy that directly onto the mac and it will work.

I dont know what type of network you are working from, if from wireless, iTunes 9 (most recent version) has a new feature that allows you to share files from more than one computer in your "home". Bascially you enable Home sharing on both computers, select the files you want to transfer and then click import. I've just done this, takes a while but it is very easy...but with 75gb this may not be an option for you. May get you started though...

if you just copy form the external then you'll always need it connected when you listen tot he tunes. Just copy them to your mac's hd and add them from there
