Hey, I see thta TD waterhouse have a new trading account offer for Ireland, €20 trades (cheaper for frequent traders) and no account maintance charge fon active accounts. access to international equities, bonds etc.. Seems a pretty good deal based on what the other IE brokers but still a little expensive compared to UK packages (TD waterhouses UK offer!).
has anyone used td waterhouse in the past and if so how was your experience? anyone tempted to move from the big irish brokers?

I am a member of ETRADE but I will be joining tdwaterhouse soon as it has so many platforms. Etrade has only recently intorduced stop loss, and limits last week and only for the FTSE 350.
Seems like a good strong Canadian bank. Looking forward to joining them.
    Anybody any experience?
Davies and the like in Ireland are such a rip off.
No anual fee either. Davies is €80

Just an update on this, has anyone got any feedback from using tdwaterhouse.ie?

I used to work and trade with them in Australia (before CommSec bought them out). They are a great firm and their trade execution is spot on with excellent real time information. The same guy who headed up the Australian office is now running the UK offices and now the Ireland online services. They wont have an office in Ireland anytime soon (as per CEO) and you cannot call their customer serivce line using an Irish mobile (not very accessible).
Having said all that, I've not used them in Ireland as yet but plan to open an account soon.

You can see them as quinn when he entered into the insurance business. It should provoke the other brokers to bring down their own mad prices.

So they deserve a chance and they are a reputable company so it's not exactly a risk,

Hi All, seems like I am in the same boat as alot of others looking at setting up an account with TD waterhouse, but looking for some feedback from people who have traded with them.

I email them last week, and got a reply within the time frame the automated message advised, but only read the mail today.

the mail i received was teh perfect email you could get to a repsonse. they answered all my questions without any long winded staements or sales drivel.

They seem to be the real deal - but i would still like to get some feedback from people who gave used them before transfer shares and setup an account etc.

Sent in my application over 2 weeks ago now and they say that they still have not received it. They are saying it may be due to the postal strike.

I have since bought some shares through Sharewatch though their Small Trader. 50 Euro fee.
Does anyone know if they send you out a certifcate or do you just ring them again when you want to sell the shares.

They will send out the cert but I would advise you them and ask them to hold the cert.

If you don't then before you sell the stock you must post back the cert which could take a few days and could be costly in a volatile market

Thanks but I bought the shares on Friday last (BOI at 2.01 so not being a good week for me) so I'd say its already on the way. Will transfer it to TDWaterhouse once my account is set up so I can sell on the spot if they get to a price where I make a profit.

Would love to have bought some more at 1.40 yesterday but as i didnt have TDWaterhouse i didnt get a chance ; -(

does anyone know, when she sets up her account with td waterhouse can she then send her share certificate to td's and then she would be able to sell her shares online with them whenever she wants?

i have been using them for the last few weeks and there is no comparison to sharewatch who i had been using; the platform is fantastic and the amount of information is mind boggeling compared to what i was getting , so far so good

I tried signing up but they returned the form to me, apparently it was filled out wrong. But its a nightmare to understand, I tried getting a customer service rep in a bank to sign it but they didn't have a clue about which parts to fill in and neither did I. They also didn't know what their financial regulator number was. I don't have an accountant so can't bring it to them, nor a financial advisor or lawyer or anything like that, so if I did need to get one of them to sign it chances are I'm going to have to pay them about 80 euro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭foxirl

    Shamblertine.
The bank should have no problem filling it in. They don't need their regulator number.
You fill in section 1 with your details.
The Bank fills in section 2 & 3 and stamps the form. They should also stamp a copy of a household bill(e.g. ESB) and a copy of your passport. Thats all there is to it. Send it off then and you should be set up once they receive it.

Definitel would not be paying 80 euro to get it done.

I am in the process of opening an account as per my previous tread.

All the document for the verification must be stamped and signed by the verifying agency. My first set of form were sent with only the form stamped so had to resend. In talking to a TD W rep he said that the gardai stamping the forms will be acceptable. I used my morgage and insurance advisor to stamp and sign.
today TD W confirmed that they have accepted this and that an info pack etc will arrive in the post in the next few days,

sending TD W share certs -- send these by registered post. these are like cash.

Are the TD quotes in real time?
When I set up a watch list, it asks me for number of shares and quantity etc, thats a but annoying as I just want to add a list of shares and view them in real time.
Has anybody any experience of this on TD?

I think ill be opening an account with them soon. They charge 15 euro per quarter if u dont have more than 5000 euro with them...

"Online trading is a simple flat fee of €20.00, or just €15.00 per trade when you trade more than 10 times a quarter.
We charge an Account Management Fee of €15.00 + VAT per quarter but we only charge this on accounts that have not traded or have a cash and/or stock valuation of less than €5,000."

Actually to clarify a little the 15 Euro per quarter is only charged if you don't have more than 5K with them OR have not made a trade in that quarter.

Also the 15 euro per trade kicks in when you have 10 trades or more on a rolling 3 months

I've signed up with them, Have bought shares, have transferred in shares electronically and transferred in cash as well. I have also had to speak to their customer service team several times. I'd give a proper run down on my thoughts except that I really have no other experience except with the Goodbody AIB Broker service so its probably not representative

so u prefer them over goodbody etc...? ( im currently with Goodbody via AIB)

How do u transfer the shares in? Ill be doing this also but have never done it with any company .

Yes I do.. for what its worth.. heres a quick summary of my experience thus far.

I had no problem setting up my account.. they processed that without issue and quickly.

I have funded my account by doing bank transfers. I'm not too keen on how I have to do this as I have to give them my account number and name on the message that goes along with the transfer. I forgot to do that once and had to call customer service to find out what happened to my transfer when it didn't appear in my account. The CS rep was able to confirm they had the money but needed a fax from my bank confirming it was from my AIB account and where it was to be lodged. Once they had that the money appeared in my TD account the same day. Typically though a transfer like this takes 3 days and apart from that one time I've had no issues with fund transfers.

As for transferring shares theres a form on their site that you need to print off and send into them and they'll take care of the rest. Or so it seems. I had six lines of stock with Goodbodys and wanted to transfer three of them to TD Waterhouse. I filled in the form and got a letter back from TDW indicating that they would take care of it but it might take up to 6 weeks. I think their site actually says 10-15 working days but it didn't matter to me. In theory 6 weeks later the shares in question should have disappeared from my Goodbody account and appeared in my TDW account. In practice 2 days later all 6 lines of stock disappeared from my Goodbody account and I was charged by Goodbody for transferring 6 lines of stock. I contacted Goodbody and they rectified the situation almost immediately although I did end up with 1 particular line of stock in both my Goodbody and TDW accounts for a couple of days ( it was not one I wanted to transfer).

The three lines of stock I wanted to transfer did not materialize on either account so after about 6 weeks I contacted TDW. The 3 lines were in my account within the next three days. So not the best experience when it came to transferring shares but I'm not sure whom to blame in to be fair both brokers were quick to respond and sort out my problems with minimal of fuss.

I've been speculating (can't say i know enough to be an investor) for about a year now and do not have large funds so my main reason for moving was the cheaper commission fees and charges. TDW also offer a wider range of markets to trade in and provide real time quotes in these markets which is a nice to have. You can alos hold your money in several different currencies with TDW.

Both Goodbody and TDW appear to have good customer service reps although Goodbody certainly has the edge when it comes to quick email responses.

I suspect most of the TDW Irish operation is simply run through their English equivalent and even the site is a similar version re badged for Ireland. No big deal with this and I've heard that they are getting a lot of business here. Don't as me to quantify what 'a lot' is but its more than what they expected which is why there can be some delays as they are still finding their feet to a certain extent I would say.

Their Site has a lot more information available than the Goodbody site but nothing that can't be found anywhere else on the web I imagine. They don't offer a DRIP option yet on their Irish site but they do offer SCIP I believe. I also inquired about their regular investment account which appealed to me but at the moment this service is not available here in Ireland. They did say they anticipate this service will be available at some stage in the future but no timescales as of yet.

Finally I've just completed an open offer process on both TDW and Goodbody accounts and have no complaints with either so far. Still waiting to see how many shares I get though. TDW have the option of doing this all electronically if you wish whereas with Goddbodys its mail and phone.

Hope that helps, I have no affiliation with either AIB, Goodbodys or TDW in case anyone cares except that they all hold some of my hard earned. I'd like to recommend but its best that everyone does their own research...

On this point I don't think the stockwatch option is real time. I don't really use it so I can't be sure. The quick quote section at the bottom of the screen is real time but thats just one share at a time so I don't think you can do what your trying to do..Its a nice Idea though I might go and have another look at the stockwatch option just in case...

Just tried it and I found this in the help section "Please note that prices in Stockwatch are 15 minute delayed. Click refresh in your browser to update the prices in your table." so its not real time and won't refresh automatically either

Ok one thing to note for those that do the odd 'over the phone' trade. There prices for this service are extremely high for such service.

I didn't write down the figures the guy told me, but its like this.

    Trade value between <€1000 = €30
    €1000-€3000 = €50
    €4000-€7000 =€75
    €8000-€11000= €100
    €12000-€19000 =€200
    €20000+ = €1000!?!?

For those who telephone trade... Its not all its made out to be. I'm not impressed at these high charges.

If you want to trade the uk and irish stocks only then sharewatch is grand. I wouldn't switch to TD only I wanted to buy canadian stocks.
