Audi A4 B7 CVT

    I was all set to buy an Audi A4 B7 with CVT until I started reading horror stories on the internet about transmission failures. Does the A4 come with CVT in Ireland? Have there been major failures in Ireland?

    Is this the one with the multitronic gearbox jobby , my dad is looking at getting one of these as well.

    It seems to affect most of the A4 B6 and B7 autos. It seems that the Transmission Control Unit fails in them regularly. It costs $3000 to fix it with Audi dealers in Australia. The part seems to be a lot cheaper in the UK though. Audi dealers in Ireland might be another story. It looks like it might not be sch a big deal for me if I can get the part from the UK if it fails on me.

    If it's called Multitronic it's CVT.

    I've only had one go in a car I sold. Got full warranty despite being 3 years old.

    Ymmv.

    I would be buying in Australia and exporting to Ireland when I eventually move home. I would say I wouldn't get much sympathy from Audi Ireland if this happened?

    The Aussies claim that this is a widespread problem. I wonder is it being blown out of all proportion because of the cost of replacing the part over there. It seems quite expensive in the US too.

    The A5 also uses CVT. I haven't heard of any failures. Then again, they are quite new ...

    If I were you, I would make sure that the part would work on your car, i.e. Australian spec car versus a European spec car.
    There might be lots of slight differences. I know that some jap imports have diferences like windscreen thickness and headlamp differences, which make it a nightmare for spare parts.
    This might or might not be the case with your Audi - you will have to find out.
    I would imagine that everything should be straight forward but it is best if you make sure.
