Thinning hair-female

Basically I'm always afraid my hair is starting to seriously get thinner. I keep finding hairs everywhere, my bedroom floor is covered in them, always loads on my brush and ribs of my hair are always on my pillow and bed. My Dad is bald and my mother has seriously thin hair which I know does not bode well for me in the future. I do dye it but I condition it regularly and don't wash it every day as a load of hairs always come off in the shower. It doesn't look unnaturally thin, just fine, but I'm seriously worried about the future and whether I should start using Nourkin or whatever in case I end up with very little hair like my mother! Am 25. Please help

That's sh_t luck if its genetic OP, here's what I'd do, just tips, dont kno if they work or not but hopefully they help..Washing your hair less often doesnt really make a difference coz when you do wash it more hair will come out anyway which will just freak you out. Apparently ya lose 70 hairs from your head a day too so dont worry bout that. Ease back on the conditioners, sprays n all that. When you brush your hair start from the ends then work your way up. Takes longer but you avoid breaking/pulling out your hair. Blow dry your hair upside down to add volume. Keep your hairdryer a good distance away from your head if you use it. The heat will thin your hair. Take a good supplement/eat healthier foods (nuts/seeds/veg etc blabla) all round health obviously supports better hair/skin/nails. Go to the doctor and find out if your deficient in something or have an underlying condition that could be making your hair thin. Hopefully they can advise you how to treat it. Oh ya, massages (and exercise) are supposed to help improve your circulation which helps you grow hair/I heard older men saying their hair got better with frequent head massages? I hope these help!

I'm a guy but when i had long hair all that stuff was happening to me. hair looked crap and thin. Since I got it cut short its back to normal thickness.

Could you get a short haircut for a while? Might help the health of the hair. Doctor's prob your only other option. Unfortunately stressing about it is probably making it worse

Hi op, I would'nt worry too much about it yet, it's normail for between 100 and 150 strands of hair to fall out EACH time you brush it, and also at the moment coming into Autum, it's the "fall of the leaf" I don't know if you ever heard of it but at this time of the year when tree's and cats etc, start shedding, it's the same with us. Also look at your hair (the strands that have fallen out) is there a root at the top of it, that little white bit? because if there is then it has nothing to do with the hair dye your using, but if there is no root then your hair may be just breaking, so you could maybe change your shampoo and conditinor and stop using dye. hope it works out for you:)

Hi OP. If you really are worried you need to see your GP and maybe a specialist. Even if it is only to allay your fears.

On the other hand, Alopecia in women is not uncommon and you can read a lot about it on the web.

    See your GP.

    All the best.

Ask your GP and maybe see specialist.

Ask in health shop about supplements etc.

    Ask a good hairdressers opinion.

There was a post about this a couple of months ago and I will give the same advice. Get a supplement called MSM. It's by Solgar vitamins and comes in a powder form. It's rather bitter so I mix it with orange juice. It completely stopped my hair from falling out and is brilliant for overall health. Google it. It's rather pricey (about €21) but lasts for ages as you only need half a teaspoon at the most.

hey op, used to have the same problem myself, hair was really itchy and falling out in handfulls, thankfully its stopped now, definately go see a doctor, could be a thyroid/hormone problem,
i was told to take omega-3 supplements, or any supplemement with dha and epa in it, stops inflamation and strengthens hair apparently, personally i found it better to wash my hair every day, cos more seemed to fall out when it got greasy. Also i found washing it with johnsons baby shampoo really really helped, it wasn't as harsh on my hair as regular shampoos.

def go see a doctor though, could be easily sorted
