On a number of recent trips around this Island I found myself looking for a place to have lunch.

What I wanted was a good no nonsense eatery with good hygiene, clean dunnies, friendly staff and convenient parking.

I'd be interested to hear comments on your favourite eating places on National routs.

Here's a few of mine to kick off.

DUB / Cork - The Horse and Jockey at about half way to Cork this is a good spot to stop.
Good menu ,convenient parking and clean Johns make it one of my favourites - nice welcoming fire in Winter too.

Dub / Wexford - Woodenbridge Hotel a little off the beaten track but worth the diversion...nice menu, lovely surroundings...good parking etc.

Lim / Gal - The Lady Gregory in Gort - good buffet style fare..adequate parking...clean spacious Dunnies.

Feel free to comment and add your own favourites.

Places that are busy are always the places that are tasty and good value.

I think the OP is looking for somewhere to have FOOD, not greasy shoite holes that are somehow allowed to legally market their calorie rich, nutrient poor muck as "food".

Hayden's Hotel in ballinasloe, different name now,but great for a good solid breakfast.

I was there recently and took on some grub, then continued to Galway, however just outside Loughrea got a fierce "rift" and barely made it to the Hotel with a big scutthery lad "on the bubble".

Blew out a right rasper which would require attention from the staff, so, ironic isn't it, Hayden's got the custom, Loughrea got the problem.

    It happens:o

Meals on wheels is your best bet i.e. bring a packed lunch-at lest you know what you're eating!
