ok well i got 430 in the leavin cert, and got my first choice (psyc nursing), but i really wanted to do midwifery but didnt think id get the points (425) so didnt even apply for it..now i really wanna do that instead of psyc nursing.
I also got the HEAR grant so that reduces the points i need.
Do you think id be able to switch courses? The thing is im registered now in psyc nursing. Can it be done? and how complicated is it?

    Hey Christina,

I hate to say this, but you really should have listened to your guidance counsellor on how the CAO system works. It doesn't matter what you put as Number 1 in regards to points. If you don't get it, you don't get it - end of story. Then they move swiftly on to your Number 2.

For instance, if you are a straight-F student but would love to be a doctor, you should still put Medicine as your Number 1.

I'm not sure what can be done at this stage - it would be best to talk to them in the college.

Yea I think you can transfer. You need to talk to the dean i.e. head of school of medicine. Once you have enough points it really should be no problem but do so immediately. Also look at http://www.nuigalway.ie/medicine/

If the course is full, there won't be a place to transfer into.

It may work. But if I can be brutally honest, it probably won't.

It's worth a shot OP, but don't allow yourself to raise your hopes too much.
