I would like to get into the markets in a small way (just a couple of k), but am not sure its really worth it at that level of investment because of the fees (even using a discount online broker).

But I came across intrade.com, and was wondering if you guys think that that might be a better way bet on financial markets with so little money? Seems like a cheap way to day trade to me, but I might be wrong.

I haven't used intrade so I can't comment on their service or reputation. I had a look at the markets on their website - very interesting.

If it's a few grand you are investing it may be an idea to buy a couple of ETF's, diversify across asset classes and currencies and hold them with a long term view.
