RIRA attempted murder of catholic PSNI officers family

RIRA have announced that they were behind the attempts on a catholic officer's sister and mother, by placing bombs outside their houses.
The Real IRA has claimed responsibility for trying to kill the families of two police officers.

The group has admitted to three separate attacks in Derry overnight including two attempted bombings and a shooting.

Two of the attacks were attempts to kill the relatives of a serving Catholic police officer in Derry.

The first device exploded outside his parents' home, while a second device was made safe after being found near his sister's home.

In a statement using a recognised codeword, the Real IRA accused the police of harassing republican families.

"If the police," it said, "want to come at us, we will come back at them."

The Real IRA has also claimed responsibility for shooting a man in the legs and hand overnight.

It said he had 24 hours to leave the city once he is discharged from hospital.

There have been six paramilitary-style shootings in Derry in the past four weeks.

This is a significant upsurge in dissident activity and comes shortly after this week's massive bomb find in south Armagh.

Then, as happened in the past, you'll get continued intimidation of Catholics in the force, leading to falling applications from Catholics and then those who have done the intimidation claim that imbalance as justification for targeting them.

Terontress, I don't think you have to be afraid of the scenario you mentioned happening.
Too many people in nationalist and republican areas have seen the PSNI for what it is : a normal day to day police service you can call to assist you with day to day problems that require help from the police.

Every day of the week the PSNI patrols areas in normal cars and goes to calls in areas where 15 years ago the RUC would have been machinegunned and RPG'd for two reasons : the police has changed and the people have changed.

    Well said MeathStevie !

One of the overriding stand-out points of many many of the "Idealistic" movements,be they Political,Social or even Musical,is their definition of that term "change".

Usually they work themselves and their followers up to a frenzy of purple-faced paroxyism`s of excitement and anger to agitate for whatever change they happen to want

Then...if and when that change arrives they suddenly find that the true definition of the term entails much else "changing" too,and not all of that "collateral" change suits the original "Lads".

A return to "Normal Policing" I would Imagine entails such previously abandoned items such as Car Tax,MoT,Insurance.......Dog Licences....TV Licences......Public Order stuff such as D & D or Abusive Behaviour....all the stuff of a normal day to day existance which was OK in the absence of "Normal Policing".

In reality it`s a human nature issue and has little or nothing to do with the nature of the Cap Badge or Flag under which life is lived by the majority of Ordinary folk ?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.
