    Hey all,

    Just got the 10MB package installed from UPC there yesterday and it's looking good so far;

    Anyways tried testing it out with uTorrent and well... it was crap!

    Anyhoo, had been meaning to do a fresh reinstall of Windows lately and wipe the C:/ Drive so finally got around to doing that today.

    Atm all I have installed is Google Chrome, AVG Internet Security Suite and uTorrent - decided to test out uTorrent again and as soon as it's running I can't browse - no pages will load and I get an error.

    The torrents run at like 0.02kbs and I can't load any webpages when it's running, the internet connection stays connected however..

    Anyone come across this before?

    Any ideas how I can fixify it?

    Thanks guys!

    Speedtest looks perfect, no reason for complaints there. Have you configured ports for utorrent?

    once you open the ports, it works alot better, but still terrible.

    see this and this thread. you are not alone with your troubles.

    Is it just the downloads in uTorrent that are slow or the uploads too?

    I'd hazard a guess that you put no limit on your upload speed in uTorrent which would definitely slow down your browsing to a crawl if your entire upload bandwidth was in constant use.

    Try checking AVG's settings to see if it's constantly scanning uTorrent's activity. I found that to be a problem before when using ESET NOD32 v3.xx as uTorrent was classed as a Web Browser in it. I'm not a fan of AVG, I find it quite unfriendly towards run-of-the-mill actions, but it's not as bad as Kaspersky. It could be a long shot, but it's certain worth a try. Dig into AVG's settings and see.

    To add to chopperbyrne's post, which I fully agree with, uTorrent will tolerate an upload limit of as low as 6KB/s. Any lower and your download speed receives a slowdown penalty. Don't choke your connection by leaving it at unlimited or setting the limit too high.

    Finally, now, this is a likely solution for you if the rest fail. The number of persistent TCP connections uTorrent makes is crucial. Since Windows XP SP(2, I think), the tcpip.sys file is limited to 10. uTorrent's default setting is to use up to 8 of those. You can change that. Go into Preferences and select Advanced. Scroll down the list and find net.max_halfopen. Change it to 6 or 5, and see if that yields any improvement for you. Short of downloading a tcpip.sys patcher to up the limit, this is your best solution, if the problem lies here.
