I recently ordered a dell XPS M1330 ... then after learning of that Nvidia Graphics card problem, I want to get a cooling pad for it.Can anybody reccomend a good one, that will work with a 13'' laptop?

On a side note is the issue with the M1330 fixed yet?The whole thing reminds me of the RROD with the 360..but I heard theres a new BIOS released last month A15, so hopefully that will help!Does anybody know the failure rate with the Nvidia 8400M GS?I've been reading anywhere from 10% to a 100% failure rate

A cooling pad won't do much to be honest. They can help improve airflow, and give the laptop a nice cool & flat surface to sit on (better than your lap, or bed etc), but if you've got some underlying heat issue they won't fix it. They're just not powerful enough to make any major change to the temperature of internal components.

The failure rate (of the M1330) seems to be fairly high. Nobody has figures (outside of Dell) but anecdotally there have been enough people reporting problems to safely say it is much higher than average.

Personally I would make sure you had a good warranty, or perferably send it back while you still can. Not really worth the hassle/worry that it may fail, and in any case its a very old model and there's better around nowadays.

Oh believe me i've tried 2 hours on the phone with Raji, yielded nothing. The only option is to pay 200E for 'restocking' fees.Hard to believe they actually have used any parts seeing as its been in production for over a month!

Thanks anyway, I got a 1 year basic warranty so what'll probally happen is that i'll end up throwing it in the bin if it breaks after that as the with the repair costs I could just buy a cute little netbook that will satisfy my needs!Or it could just work fine, but I doubt it :p

Have you actually received it yet?

If not, you've always been able to return laptops to Dell within 7 days with only a minimal charge (€20 or thereabouts). Link. In additional the Irish/EU distance selling act protects you for about the same period, so it's not just a Dell goodwill thing, they have to comply by law. Any Indian chap telling you different is wrong, just ask for his supervisor.

If its too late to go back, there's not much you can do other than try and prevent the temps getting too high. Just keep it clean of dust, clean the vents regularly, maybe undervolt the processor. By all means use a cooler if you want, just don't expect miracles, usually a couple of degrees is all you'll get.

There's a few more extreme things that can be done (the so called 'copper mod') but they'll void your warranty so are best left until after it expires.

I think i'll do that, from the amount of stuff I've read on the internet about it, I don't think its worth it.Now all I have to do is wait for them to actually send it out the EDD has been pushed back twice :mad
