what are the views on the best way of power washing sheds. I am currently giving all sheds a complete washing without any disinfectant but intend to come back after with the disinfectant in the budget.

Is this an effective way of doing it. I intend rearing calves in these sheds so scour can be a problem and also the sheds have never been properly washed out before.

You could also whitewash the walls, as whitewash is also a disinfectant.

On the powerwashing front, just make sure you have a good powerful power washer and make sure it has a ball bearing head on the lance which will cut washing time in half.

On the disinfectant, the cheapest and best way to do it it with lime. Either white wash it as Sam said, or do what I do, just sprinkle a bucket of lime every week on top of the bedding.

    Hi
I need to buy another power washer to wash out 2 sheds.
I was thinking of a pto powered one. What's the best type and place to buy?

you can spray the disinfectant on with a knap sack. the lime is a good job too.

Soaking the walls the day before really makes the job a lot quicker.A lot of washers will mix in disinfectant for you.Rotary head is a must.I always thought a pto washer was an awful waste of horsepower and use electric. However im open to correction on that

Put the pto in 1000rpm and leave the tractor ticking over.
Electric power washers similar in psi to a pto power washer cost at least twice as much as the pto model. Also, some remote places don't have electricity. Finally the safety aspect - electricity and water are not a good combination IMO. Have seen a trip switche go because of a stripped wire on a power washer and water. Thankfully noone got hurt.

Point taken on the pto regarding electricity not always available where you need it.However damaged wiring with proper trip switches is no more dangerous than a damaged pto guard .I hate to see tractors ticking over for hours.Always told it was bad for engine wear.

I would agree with soaking the floor and walls with an ordinary water hose the day before. It makes a big difference.
