Might be an idea to post this in the xbox forum, maybe someone there has/had the same problem and might be able to offer a fix.

How about pc/laptop is it disconnecting? are you using cable/wireless?
One of my mates has 4 xboxes on cisco modem the only problem we encountered was port forwarding dont think a normal router can open same ports for over 4 devices.hope it helps

no, the pc has no problems. its just the two xboxes, they are both wired.

Its the Cisco 2452 router that UPC provide, its ****, it cannot handle more than one connection at a time even if its not doing much. Its not an xbox issue at all.

I'd imagine it is down to the fact that the Xbox requires ports to be open in order to work, which it normally does automatically via uPnP.

When you switch the first Xbox on, it forwards the necessary ports via uPnP, from your upc IP address (your internet address) to it's (the Xbox's) IP address (given by your Cisco box) and it'll work away fine. No bother!

The fun starts then when you switch the second Xbox on. The second Xbox then attempts to forward the same ports as the first did, from the same upc IP address to it's own, different IP address. This effectively grabs all the ports that Xbox 1 was using, and uses it for itself instead. This causes Xbox 1 to disconnect. If you then restarted Xbox 1, Xbox 2 would probably disconnect on you (or, Xbox 2 would stay connected fine and Xbox 1 wouldn't reconnect).

In short, there's no easy way around it. One of the limitations of NAT routing unfortunately :)

What he ^^^^^ says....I had the same issue with a Netgear, would only allow the ports to be used by one client(xbox), Linksys (made by Cisco) was similar but I put one into the DMZ and one into the " gaming " tab after flashing it with DD-WRT firmware and used port forward for the other, this means creating static IP's for each Xbox, I brought home every model of router from Argos and found that the Belkin N router worked straight out of the box with all consoles just using auto settings and upnp enabled on the router, Belkin's seem to be shipped with upnp turned off by default, I tried so hard not to like the belkin but it works perfectly with the 2 Xbox's and PS3( type 2 NAT) all on at the same time so I returned all the rest, it really is painful to type that the Belkin worked best!!

how would i go about setting up a a different router. is it as simple as just plugging it into the cisco modem?

    yes

If you're going to do this, you'll need to forward ALL ports on the Cisco to your new router (easily done using "DMZ", if the Cisco supports it). Otherwise, you're double NATing which will in all likelihood cause you no end of problems.

it seems to be ok(ish) at the moment. The two xboxs are working but one of them has a strict NAT, doesnt really bother me.
