I've used Cruncheee for a good while, the netbook version. Its fine but the Openbox window manager isn't to everyones taste, I got fed up of it and reverted to anohter distro that uses Gnome. Its based on Ubuntu and uses the Ubuntu repositories.

I'd highly recommend Mint, its also based on Ubuntu but has alot of restricted stuff enabled, that You gotta install on Ubuntu therefore it will play any music or video file out of the box, something Ubuntu won't do. Its my distro of choice on my main pc.

I used Crunchbang for a while, installing proprietry video drivers was the only problem I had with it. The tint2 panel is stupid so I switch to lxpanel. I got bored with it too, so I switched back to mint and conky won't run on it so it's 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other.

I have Cruncheee on my netbook. It's perfect for a small screen or for a low spec PC. Conky does work on it.

I find the package selection restrictive. I would definitely check out the package list before trying. I would add more repos but I think I would feel like I'm missing the point of the whole thing

I'm actually going to try Ubuntu Studio next with it's realtime kernel then install Mint along side that if necessary.

Have been using cruncheee on my notebook for months now, really like it. Not sure how the main distro would fair on a desktop though, I'd probably go for Mint or Ubuntu for that.
