    Hey just wanna know....

I am legally seperated from my ex wife since Jan this year. We agreed on weekly maintenance in court but will be reviewed by the social every year. I am in a three year relationship with my girlfriend and we are planning on starting a family in the new year.

So I just want to ask if anybody knows if I have a child with my girlfriend will it reduce or change the maintenance I currently pay my ex wife now that I have another child to support??

    Thanks,
    Poms.

I don't think having a child to a different partner would lessen the original obligation to the child from your first marriage.

when determining maintenance the court will look at your means , therefore if you have an extra child to support/another family , then the court may reduce the maintenance you have to pay for your first family. it all depends on your means .

    Hmmmm,

The court will look at your income and expenditure. It will also look at your ex's income and expenditure. The court will take your new family into account but the courts are very sympathetic to the family of origin in general..I would not like to be relying on the fact that they would definately reduce the maintenance. I found they do on average but not by very much...
