Mods: I don't think I'm really asking medical advice here, really just asking if anything similar has happened to anyone before. If you do think I'm seeking med. advice, delete away and I apologise!

I've been on the pill for about 5 years. A couple of months ago my prescription was up and I was pretty broke at the time so couldn't go to my doctor in time to get a new one, so I just came off it and went to the doctor a couple of weeks later. I waited for my period to arrive so I could start taking it again but now it's been 6 weeks since my last period. I've never come off the pill before, so not sure if it messes with my cycle if I do, has it happened to anyone else?

By the way, I've been using protection with my bf and took a pregnancy test last week so I know I'm not pregnant. I had exams in August and was very stressed at the time, but they finished 3 weeks ago so I don't think that could be a factor.

Absolutely normal. Don't worry about it.

I came off the pill to get pregnant and My period was about 5 weeks late the first time I got them after so they will come in the next couple of weeks.

Also be warne it will be the most uncomfortable perios ever so seriously have your hot water bottle and a painkiller close by. Sorry but I would have been glad if someone warned me.

When I came off the pill my periods took 5 yrs to come back, I was on the pill for 8 yrs. After being off the pill for 7 yrs, I probally only have gotten 5/6 periods. Everyone is different.

This is is completely normal. My friend was 8 months waiting on her period after the pill. She'd been taking it for 8 years also. It just takes ur body time to re adjust but it's completely normal.

My period stopped for 10 months before and I panicked but after that it really doesn't worry me anymore. It's just your body's catching up thats all. If you've any concerns ask your GP. They won't actually investigate any problems until you're about 6 months within a period. It's very very normal. So relax =)

Hi, just wondering why you said you can get very bad periods when you come off the pill, never knew this and have suffered really badly with pains all my life but last november i came off the pill i was sick of it and never felt any of them agreed with me, i put on weight with it and i didnt feel right, Since coming off it the pain is really bad every month and i have to take strong pain killers but im out of it for a week every month!

I just wondered does the pain ease up a bit after you go off it and maybe normalize, apparently having a baby can be a cure for the pains, I have also decided to have a baby at this time it would be brillo if it did cure it.

Op here. Thanks for replies, got my period at the weekend (and yes, it was bloody painful!!) I was talking to my friends about it and one fo them said that you should actually come off the pill every now and again to give your body a break, she said she does it once a year for a month. I have never heard this and was never told anything about it by my doctor, does anyone know if this is true or not?

yes its true you should come off the pill particularly if you are on it for more than 3 or 4 years. i don't think however once a year for one month is right, it could be once every few years for a few months. I don't think one months break is really beneficial to the body. Might be worth asking the doctor about it.

It's completely possible given all the recent upset and changes to have even completely skipped a period.
You know you're not pregnant and you're taking precautions.

Try not to worry about it, it'll come when it's ready.
If you don't get it for anther month visit your doctor.

    Best of luck.
