Letter or permission from your local Superintendant or Inspector required. He'll probably want to meet you and inspect said piece.

Ask in the shooting forum. I'm sure it came up once or twice. As an alternative an airsoft replica looks pretty real, don't require any interaction with your local Gardai and as I'm finding out, great fun for a bit of target practice in the garden.

From hearing it over on the shooting forum, I understand that you'll need a letter of authorisation from your local superintendent and they'll need to satisfy themselves as to its deactivation.

Correct, the weapon would have to be surrendered to the Gardaí for examination to determine if it was deactivated.

Would it not be the Militaria forum? (Under Rec, Collectibles and Antiques)
