What to do with your life, as in the moment when you were certain that you knew what job you wanted, where you wanted to live etc..

It evades many people, including me, who just have no idea what they want to do! Find it interesting to know because I've gone to college, hated it and left. Working full time since I was 18, can run a bar and confident I'd be successful, however I don't think I want to! Maybe someone here will inspire me, or maybe nobody gives a ****.

12 or 13, watching films and TV shows about "hackers" got me interested in stuff like that, so i went online and found some sites that teach about web security and stuff.
Realised it was absolutely nothing like on TV but still found it interesting and fun, learned to program PHP when I was 12 I think, then C++ when i was 13, since then I've always had my mind set on programming.

Sounds just like my brother, he's finished his degree in Computer Systems in Limerick at age 28 but he's absolutely gifted, I am into Computers but never that much, don't have it in me.

Hah, it's not that easy running a bar or hotel, there's alot of hours and stress involved, I work for my old man and ran the place on my own for 4 weeks while he was away, needless to say I admire and respect him much more after realising how hard he's worked to build his business from nothing.

I left school due to an illness at 16, recovered and decided to get an apprenticeship, Loved it for 5 years, began to put money away for a house, was happy with the girlfriend thinking in a few years to settle down/marriage etc and then became ill again so couldnt work for a year, went back and it was never the same so that career is in the bin now (as is the girlfriend)! The carreer is something to fall back on though i suppose:confused:.

But now im in the same boat as yourself, havent the foggiest what to be doing. I know myself i could handle a small buisness of my own but to be honest i just dont want to be tied down by something like that at the moment!
Ive thought about collage but then comes the dilemma of what to study??

After recovering from a life threatening illness twice it kinda make you not care what gonna happen just once im enjoying myself now!!!
Im actually happy enough at the moment but im just afraid ill look back and regret not doing something.......

So to put it short! Yes, i know exactly how you feel and your not the only one! :D

Well if you've faced all that then it doesn't really matter what you're doing does it! Hope you keep your health this time :)

I was 15. Walked on stage in a show and realised by the end of it that I had to act. Haven't looked back! I just knew.

I had just come home from school and didn't have a clue what to put down on my CAO form for college. Totally clueless, I even got to the point of really worrying about it. Then it came into my head - I wanted to study History.

Fast forward a couple of years and I'm gonna be doing my favourite subject as a Major in UCC and I'm delighted with it. As other posters said, I just knew it was the right thing.

I'm 29 and I am going to go back to college part time. Went to college for a year at 19, dropped out and working ever since (and partying ever since!). I don't know what to do at college though. It won't be until next year. I'm going to try for a few things in the year coming!

What I relly aspire to do is win the lotto!

I'm doing a Masters now but I have a job aswell (been there over a year now) which I love. That line of work was never something I thought was possible for me to get into but is something I've always been interested in.

In regard to my education/qualifications, I've always been happier with groups of people rather than working alone. I think teaching/tutoring is always something I've been working towards. I think people just know what area they want to work in, it's just a matter of the right breaks coming your way.

Though, I had to call in sick today, don't think my boss is too happy with me at the minute :(

27 and I still don't know. Have tried and tested a lot of things at this stage. Studied Fine Art for a few years then realised it probably wasn't for me, then played professional poker for the last 4 years or so but at this stage I've grown out of it, was/am a web entrepreneur trying out a few different projects, went travelling and live abroad, ran a little art gallery in Berlin. I'm going to start up a new business there in the Spring that will hopefully be more long term and a success. If it fails I have a couple other ideas that I wouldn't mind trying out.

It's often frustrating not having something reliable and permanent, but if you're not happy doing something there's no point in just sticking to it because of the money. In saying that I have great admiration for people who stick with it because of responsibility.

As long as you keep your eyes open and have an open mind about things, there are always opportunities imo.

I didnt really know for a while. Studied computer games development for 2 years and dropped out of that. I then worked for a bit and did a bit of travelling. Then last year I started doing a bit of acting and realised almost instantly that was what I want to do. I'm 23 now

I went to DCU - or NIHE as it was called back then when I started - and I remember vowing to have retired by the time I reached the ancient age of 40.
    Strangely enough, I managed it.

It's my 20 year reunion tonight at DCU, so I'm being a bit introsepctive, I suppose. It's going to be a bit weird to see all those faces from the past, when I've not seen most of them for all of those intervening 20 years.

I'm 25. Never wanted to do anything really. Got a degree, masters in accountancy, and recently qualified as an ACA.

Leaving my current job soon, and have one verbally agreed to take which starts in January (A lovely 3 months off), but i'm hoping in that 3 months I might be able to find something suitable abroad, cos to be honest coming into work every morning has been hell for the past 3 years. Need something new methinks.

Knew what I wanted to do when I was 20. It's a pretty difficult ambition because it's an extension of a hobby and requires self motivation, but at least I can tell myself that I'll be happy when I make it work. And right now I'm not willing to accept any reason why I can't make it work. Most people will be a lot better off than me for quite some time though.

As for places to live, there are just too many places I haven't been to. The most attractive places I've seen are hampered by me not knowing the language but I can get over that when it comes to it.

I knew what I didn't want to do when I started working in a fried chicken fast food place back when I was 16. I also worked as a labourer and a bouncer and know that this was not how I wanted to continue.

Always had an interest in computers so I directed myself that way since I was 15/16. Now at the ripe old age of 25 I'm very well qualified and have a good paying job. Still single and living at home tho :( Got to sort this out pretty soon.
I guess you just have to find something that is interesting to you and makes you tick.

Thought I knew when I was a kid. Then I thought I really knew when I was 16. When I was 22, I changed my mind. When I was 23, I went back to school because I changed my mind again. I'm 27, and still floundering around the general field. I'm almost there though, I can feel it. No, really.

As for where I want to live, well . . . that's the fun part. I've lived in three different cities (and a boat) in the six years since finishing college. And yet, I still haven't figured it out. :P

Left school when I was 16, thought I wanted to be crane mechanic. After a while I realised it wasnt for me. I tried to stick it out because I thought I would be ****ed if I left the job having no qualifications whatsoever.
I couldnt make the decision to leave myself so I started doing a **** job in the hope that they'd fire me but they never did and in the end I had to hand in my notice when I was about 18. Worked loads of different jobs and always hated them. Bought a van and did some man-with-a-van jobs, traveled around france in it for a while hoping I'd "find myself". But no one ever does I think. Came back got fired from one job, signed on and couldnt find anymore work so I went on a fetac course. In the middle of November we got thrown out of the house whe were staying in I had no money so had to live in the back of the van(which had broken down at this stage) two of us called into the tutors house and she gave us some food and stuff. And her house was brilliant, like my dream home! I had no intention of ever going to university, just wanted a job out of the course.
But that night I had an epiphany in the back of the van, so I applied for college.
Still wasnt sure about what I wanted to do until I done some work experience for the FETAC course and that just kinda set my mind really about what I wanted to do.
    Now Im going to college.
