I went into college and registered today, all went well, but I was told that because I withdrew from a honours degree course back in 2006 having done only 3 months of it I might now have to pay the tuition fee's for it as there both based on the same subject (Computing IT). This is the first time ive heard of this though.

Ive applied for BTEA/Maintenance grant and been acccepted on the btea and still waiting for word off the vec to see if ive got the grant. Meanwhile Ive payed the 1500 euro up front for registration, so now if I dont get the grant in the end ive already payed 1500 and may now have to pay tuition fees which im going to be struggling to find if not impossible for this year nevermind for the next years after that.

They said they'd get back to me on it anyhow, nothing much was said to me apart from that I may have to pay them no more infomation was given.

Has anyone been in the same position and had to pay the tuition fees here or have any further infomation on it. I didnt need this on my first day, going to be worried about it now until I hear something which could be weeks. :(

Hi, you might have it sorted by now but I'll tell you what I know anyway! When starting a new course, a student must pay tuition fees if they have done a course elsewhere previously. It depends on when they left the course. You say you only did 3 months of your previous course. Did you officially withdraw from it? If yes then you should only have to pay half tuition fees. If you did the whole year, you would have to pay full tuition fees! Exceptions are if you have a certified serious illness that disrupted your studies, are progressing from a Level 6/7 course (having obtained a National Certificate) or it has been 5 years since you dropped out of your previous course!
