Dublin to be specific? A friend in London got sent two by mistake from an Amazon seller and was told to keep them, so would there be any point in me getting one?

Depends where you are and how good your aerial is for picking up UK channels. Last I heard we were going for a different digital broadcasting system than the UK, but it's still not up and running so whether or not it will be any use at that point I don't know.

In Dublin and I doubt I'd get any UK aerial signal, so not looking good.

Look around there to see whether our digital signals will be compatible with the current UK signals. Also you may be able to receive some of the signals from Wales but you can look through those threads yourself.

It will work with Irish DTT - just needs a software update whic you can get by connecting it to the PS3.

I have it working here in Limerick and can get the four Irish TV channels and four radio stations. A firmware update is due to enable MPEG4 recording to the hard drive.

It works just fine for me here in Cork city. Be warned though that RTE can shut off some or all of the channels at any time. As the guys on the terrestrial forum will tell you RTE are just running tests.
Play TV doesn't have full functionality here yet. You can pause live tv and rewind etc. but you can't set it to record yet. I think this has something to do with the video format and should be sorted soon enough with a firmware update.
