Firstly, recently i have applied for some CE Scheme posts (community employment through FAS), What money do i get evey week? Do i only get 228 per week as i have no dependants or do i get a wage as well?

I have also applied to do an access course at the Local college which is one year in length (the plan being that i can get onto a degree course afterwards). The course is 20hours a week. Does this mean my jobseekers allowance is changed to Back to Education allowance? and is the same amount per week? Also as 20hours i believe is a full time course am i entitled to a back to education grant?

    Hi

in the Community Employment scheme FÁS pays the sponsors (the employers) a set grant and the sponsors pay the people working under the scheme. In general the rate paid is the same as the grant. As you said, the current weekly grant based on a participant working 19.5 hours per week with no dependants is €228.70. You can find out more about the Community Employment scheme here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/unemployment-and-redundancy/employment-support-schemes/community_employment_scheme

If you decide to do a course, your jobseeker's payment will not automatically change into a Back to Education Allowance - you will have to apply for this in advance and meet the various conditions. You can find out more about the Back to Education Allowance here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/social-welfare/social-welfare-payments/back-to-education/back_to_education_allowance

The rate of Back to Education Allowance is equivalent to the maximum rate of Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance. If you are getting a reduced JB or JA payment, you should receive the maximum rate on the Back to Education Allowance.

    Hi,

I also have a question... I have been on the dole for a year now and decided to do a masters in DCU this year starting next week. I am unable to receive Back to Education Allowance so I am wondering if i am still capable of joining ce scheme for a part time job as i have received an job offer requiring me to be eligible for the scheme????

    Thanks

Hi. I also have a question. I am currently on One Parent Family payment. I've just been accepted on a Community Employment scheme. How does that effect my payment? Thanks in advance

As I understand it you are free to work or study in your spare time once you are on a Community Employment scheme. But I am not sure if you can start to study and then join a CE scheme - unless another poster has been through this, I can only suggest you speak to FAS about it as soon as you can.

Thanks Graham. I had a look at that and to be honest I couldn't find an answer. I'm wondering do I get the CE payment on top of my OPFP and if so, does my rent allowance get cut?

Your earnings on the CE scheme would be assessed as means against your OFP.

Why are you unable to get BEA? how long do you have to be on dole before eligible?
