Katerine Heigl is in the final stages of adopting a ten-month old Korean girl, according to media reports.

The Knocked Up actress and her husband Josh Kelly have been trying to adopt the baby girl, who is called Nayleigh, for six months.

Heigl has spoken about her plans to adopt in the past, saying, "I'm done with the whole idea of having my own children. It doesn't seem like any fun. I don't think it's necessary to go through all of that."
    wtf? more lifestyle adoptions grrr

    What an idiot!

Why doesn't she (and her ilk) adopt an American orphan? Because there isn't as much of a media frenzy to boost their egos and it doesn't appear like they're rescuing an underpriviliged child from a fate worse than death, that's why!

Having a child of any age is no picnic my dear. There's worry and fear with any child you're responsible for, but good luck with continuing to live in your own little dreamworld and enjoy all the attention this brings you and your career. God forbid the child would be the one getting the deserved attention!

Hasn't she been getting the evil eye from the critics/directors recently, for being a bit of a diva in studios etc etc..?

    This baby thing's obviously a Korea move:pac:

I'm not a fan of hers, but I read that the baby has special needs, and Heigl has an adopted sister who is from Korea too so that puts a different slant on it.

I don't get the impression from her that she's into "lifestyle adoptions". Or that she'd consider a child an accessory or anything like that.

It's actually possible for people to do things for the right reasons, you know...even celebrities. Sure, maybe it would have been good for her to highlight the fact that there are children in America in need of adoptive homes. But that's not her responsibility. And she shouldn't be chastised for adopting a child. Just because a lot of people do it, doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

Ah, the foreign baby adoption craze....It can't be a standard white American kid, that would

ah actually i do remember reading about her sister, seems like her parents had the same misconceptions about american/the west saving the world

sure adopt a child but have some of your own too, perhaps have your own first for practice and then adopt....

"I'm done with the whole idea of having my own children. It doesn't seem like any fun. I don't think it's necessary to go through all of that."

To me, that sounds like a quote that's been taken completely out of context.

Obviously she and her husband thought long and hard before taking the decision to adopt. For all we know, they could have tried to conceive naturally but been unable to. But this isn't necessarily something she'd want to share with the world, so when asked about it in an interview, it's understandable that she'd make a throwaway comment about pregnancy not being a lot of "fun."

Despite her being a celebrity, I'm sure she had to go through the usual channels of assessment prior to adoption, so in my opinion we should assume that she's doing this for the right reasons and keeping the child's best interests at heart, unless there's any real evidence to suggest otherwise.

Yup, people make light of serious subjects all the time...it doesn't mean that they're superficial or anything. It says more about the people jumping to conclusions than it ever would about her. After all, none of us know her or her husband.

Showing off her newly adopted daughter for the first time, Katherine Heigl was seen leaving her hotel in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this week.
Carrying young Nayleigh Kelley in a baby carrier, the “Grey’s Anatomy” actress happened to be on the way to the set of her new movie “Life As We Know It”.

One in four I believe? I'm open to correction on that one though.

Heilgl adopted a Korean child because her adopted sister is also Korean.
