I've Been On The Dole Now For ABout 10 Months, Im 19, And Cant Get A Job Anywhere,
But I've Heard That Other People Whom Were Waiting For The Dole, Got A Back-Dated Dole Amount.

E.G 700Euro For Backin Up 6 Weeks Waiting?

    If That Makes Sense?

I Never Knew About This Back-Date Thing, And I Dont Think I Ever Got One?
Am I Still Entitled To one?
As A Bit Of Money Right Now Wud Be Handy.
    Thx in Advance

Not entirely sure what you mean. Claims are backdated in the sense that it can take some time for a claim to be processed, and your payment will be paid from the day that you first presented yourself in the Social Welfare Office (minus 3 waiting days). So say it takes 6 weeks for your claim to go into payment, your first payment will include those waiting weeks.

as uoluol said, this is only if theres a delay in processing your payment. You wouldnt be able to recieve this now if you are already on JSA/JSB.

Correct, you can't for instance say "Hey I didn't know about this when I signed on, I could have had x amount more time to apply." Sucks but there ya go.

How long does it usually take for payments to be re-issued?

I know someone who's claim is being backdated to 4th May 2009 + their first two weeks payment (they missed the first two week payments because the SW never gave/sent them a card and they had to wait for a "temp card"). The backdated payment was at the PO for them on the first day they were to collect their money (around 20 August '09) and because they had no card they missed that payment and the one a week later. The SW said the payment would be re-issued, but because up until 2-3 weeks ago, they SW apparently didn't know this person never got their first two weeks payment (apparently it was on the system) and said it could be a month of two after Xmas before the payment is re-issued.

You should recieved it anyway the day you went down to collect your first payment also on the letter you get to say you have qualified for JSA,It should say that your claim will be back dated.

But without a card the PO can't give out any money, regardless of what letter you bring with you, at least that's what the guy in the PO said. It did state on the letter that the payment will be backdated.

So, are you saying, the payment should have been given out anyway, even though the person had no card they only had a letter stating how much they were to receive and when the first payment was due?

As far as I know (according to the local SW office), payments not collected within three days (the day of it being issued (it's usually on a Wednesday) and if it's not collected by 5.30pm on the Friday (2-3 days after it being issued) it is returned to the Dept of SW and then it has to be re-issued, which could take couple of weeks/months.

I always thought, for any backdated payments though would send a cheque or give extra money for x number of weeks rather than hand a lumpsum out at once.

So that why I'm wondering how long it usually takes for payments to be re-issued.

I don't know how long it takes payments to be re-issued - it can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.

Massive bump on this thread..I recieved the letter telling me my first payment was due to be collected on 2nd of april(today)..But as its good friday its closed.I went down on thu and i was told it wouldnt be due til the 3rd.Im gona go down in the morning but i dont have a social welfare card(was never informed of needing one when making the claim and never had to present one), so i presume ill have to go down and get one on monday(or a letter to say ive applied for one which has to be stamped by the guards ye?)..Now what i was wondering was seen as i was told its not due til the 3rd,does that mean ive to collect it before the 6th or will sunday not count as a day?

If you made a claim 6 weeks ago and have only just been awarded you will backdated from the time you made the claim i.e 6 weeks ago.

However they will check with the CWO first to make sure he was not paying you while the claim was pending because if he was he will be paid the arrears maybe this is why you have not received any.:)
