Got this e-mail from the IVCA (Vets).
    "Hi Folks,
Please note this coming Sunday Sept'09 13th The West Wicklow - 100Km Tallaght 9.00am

    The West Wicklow starts from:-

The National Basketball Arena, Tymon Park, Tallaght, D24 at 9.00am on Sunday next 13th Sept.

The route is the same as in previous years:-

Starting off from the NBA along the N81, Saggart, Rathcoole, Punchestown to the tea stop in Dunlavin Co. Wicklow.

Return through Ballymore Eustace, Blessington to the Basketball Arena.

    Please note
Entrance fee €10.00 all proceeds to Missing Persons fund."

A quick look on their web says that you dont need to be a member of IVCA to take part.

Has anyone done this before? It seems like a flatter alternative to the longer Joe Loughman event.

prob be slower too. The vets Touring dont do speed. Thats why the 2nd half of the course tends to split into 2 groups

Might try it so, 'cos I'm injured. Thanks.

Don't confuse old with slow. I raced in the 70's and some of the old guys then are still riding bikes.

+1 Some of the guys on our club spins are in their 60's and 70's, with one who will be 71 this year still racing, both club and vets races, to dances on peadals, the shorter Joe Loughman is relatively flat, with just a little climbing from Ashford with a descent into Newtownmountkennedy, nothing major, though, still a little bit of a test.
The West Wicklow route is on rolling roads and is deceptively draggy.

Yes, I am promoting the Joe Loughman:D

the vets racers are indeed a different animal.
This however is a touring event. Speed until lunch shouldnt exceed 15mph but will break into 2 with a faster group heading off into the midday sun however the hardened tourers will continue to toddle along a 15mph

+1. Completed this today at an average of 25Km/Hr. Was with a group of vets in their late 60's and had to give it full throttle just to hang onto their wheels.

Passed a few bunches of young guns on the return leg.:D

it seemed to go off at a fair speed and didnt really let up.The headwind from Blessington back to tallaght was a bit of a pig. Enjoyable though.

Did a fair few Vets Tours last year. It seems to me that the last 10 / 15 miles back to the Park (Papal X), pace really picks up. There was alot of complaints about this on the IVCA site.
But hey, put two guys on a bike...............:pac::pac::pac:

Last year it was bunch splits all over the shop, good race training. Good fun and a good workout pre season. You are looking at "someone in your division" to see how much beef he has put on over the winter or lost for that matter.

Up & over and then the lash down the N3 or whatever road to the finish.
    Frowned upon I know.

The W200 for eg is a Vets tour. Does anyone / everyone give it "The Lash" to beat their previous years' Pb.? Of course they do!

    Human nature.
