Mercedes C180 Sportscoupe - resale?

I'm thinking of getting a C180 coupe for around 6k, the price seems low and I know I'll be happy with the car, but I do worry about selling the car on.

From what I've seen, these cars aren't viewed very favourably, most people just ignore them in favor of BMWs etc.

It doesn't have aircon. That doesn't bother me, but is it a biggie for resale?

Would I stand a chance of selling this next year for around 4k, or will I be stuck with a very expensive paperweight? :)

What year is the car? What mileage, what engine?

No a/c is a relative biggie, and the SC is a poor seller, but you're probably getting a bargain so you'll have to sell it as a bargain too...

It's a 01 with 50k miles, the old 2.0l petrol non-turbo, well kept and a nice example of the car.

Well I'm kinda thinking along those lines - if I'm getting a bargain I can afford to sell it at a bargain. However I don't want to be stuck with a car I can't sell. I would be happy getting 4k for it in a year's time though. Just don't know if that's realistic.

It'll be hard to move on because they are a very poor car, but on the upside people don't know that and buy it because of the badge. Unfortunately the Merc badge has limited appeal in this country. "Mercs are for old men" type statements are thrown around. Pity really, cause they have a few nice cars too!

I would avoid a poverty spec merc... anyone looking to buy it on from you is going to expect the basics - like aircon...

There was a funny article in the Sunday Indo not long ago. It was one of the society peices & was a bit of a piss take. Basically the girl in question was picked up by a guy with a set of Mercedes keys - it was in cafe en seinne. Basically she left with him, but when she saw he only drove a C180 she got into a taxi & left him standing. I'm sure it was funnier in the telling...

I would say keep it 2 years and then be happy that it has cost you 3k per year to own. Whatever you get for it then is a bonus really. 3k per year depreciation is pretty good.

But then you'd have to drive it for 2 years!
