    Hello all,

So hope your all looking forward to the years ahead at DIT as much as i am :D and may i say many thanks to all staff for a fantastically organised and very entertaining welcome day on September 8th... The info was much appreciated;)

As a single mum, mature student i have a couple of questions i hope some of you can help me with.......

As i understand having fun is defo part of college life and i believe its of utmost importance to get the balance right between work and play in order to have the best overall outcome and success.

As a single mum of a one year old kid though, i'm wondering how im gonna fit the societies and clubs into my really busy study schedule. Do most of thease clubs take place late evenings??:(

I'm blessed to have gotten my son into a brilliant and flexible creche with full time hours available from 8am till 6 as i need it. Apart from lectures and studytime, thease are the only hours i am baby free and would love some info on societies maybe running throughout the day and work around my lecture timetable :D:D:D

All advice and ideas welcome..Thanks a mil;)

Chat to Bob in the mature student office for a start if you haven't already done so ( www.dit.ie/mature )

You sound like you already know that clubs and socs are just as important as the academic, so go ahead and join whatever your interested in (and the mature student soc as well:pac:) A lot of them will have stuff on at lunchtime and around 4 or 5 pm when classes generally finish, and if they don't then you can always suggest or organise something as a member

There are free or cheap yoga / dance / karate classes, drama workshops, DJing and more all happening at reasonable hours.

    Go for it!

I wholeheartedly agree with conical, and even bumped into Lovely Sarah on the street yesterday!

Thats great conical and bob, Thanks a million for that:D..Thats another obstacle overcome!!

Getting there slowly but surely

I'l also need to speak to someone regarding support funding for childcare asap and was wondering if you might recommend somebody. As discussed i've approached my Community Welfare officer who unfortunitely has let me down with financial assistance to get me through the first month. I really hope that DIT will be able to put my mind at ease by ensuring that the support fund within the college will confirm that they will help out as soon as possible.

My little son comes first obviously, and having him looked after in a safe and logistically suitable facility is first and foremost and will have huge imput on my success in college also.

Once this is sorted i can stop whining and i promise bob, i wont be burning the ears off ya on a constant basis lol...Just really need confirmation on the above prior to getting stuck into the studies ya know :)

Anyone who can help and advise please leave a comment. I'd really appreciate it, cheers:confused:
