Proving JobSeeking

I have been on Jobseekers Allowance for 5 months now. I have been applying for suitable work and have joined agenices. I have not had one single interview for a job in this time.

My question is, at what stage do my social welfare office (Dublin City Centre) ask me to come in and show proof of my job search to them??

Would this fact that I have not been called for a job interview be bad news for me??

They will only want a list of jobs you've applied for. They may follow up on them, they may not.

Since I apply for the majority of jobs via email, I just have a label in my gmail (or you could do a folder) for job seeking emails. That way they're easy to find if I need them. (I also get to keep a running total of how many applications I've sent out, which I guess is a good thing although it's just depressing tbh)

Getting a job is beyond your control.

You have to make decent efforts to look.

If you have specific qualifications you can look in a specific area.

If there's no work in that area you have to broaden your search and be prepared to take on work outside your area of training/expertise.

    That's your obligations fulfilled.

    Hi Op

What I've done is created a table in word (or you could draw one up) with the following headings
Name of company, job title, dated applied for, outcome

As I apply for each job I write in the name of the company or agency I've applied to, the job title, date I sent e-mail or rang, I rarely get a call or e-mail back so the outcome section is often blank, but if you keep writing the jobs in it shows you are actively seeking work, and like Xiney suggested, also set up a seperate label in your e-mail and keep copies of e-mails sent. Also if you have registered your e-mail on any websites, keep a note of those and let the dole office know which websites, that way they can check and see you are up there.

miec's solution is far better than mine, since my system doesn't really take care of jobs I apply for by post (I have a folder where I keep screen shots of job ads that I've responded to but it's not quite as good)

I suggest that everyone does it his way, sure it'll take a bit of extra time... but we're unemployed!
