I'm hoping Genius will actually be useful now. I love the idea of it cause I'm useless at making playlists, but it was craptacular with my library up to now...

Can anyone see this? "Previews from anywhere in the store -- don't have to drill down to preview"

I can not seem to find it or get it to work.

Have you downloaded anything from your American Account using iTunes 9? I don't want to download iTunes 9 yet incase Apple has blocked the American/Foriegn accounts.

Havent downloaded anything yet but account balance is still showing and I`ve looked at previews etc.

Well I just tried downloading one of the free new fall TV season previews from my US account and it's working just fine, not blocking me or anything. TBH, I doubt Apple would change this anytime soon, as they would screw over all Americans that use their accounts abroad as well...

Weird I logged into the us store. Tried to buy a song. Obviously I could not as have not a US account. So it brought me back to the Irish store and hey presto it was all there. Previews etc. I was just about to go on a rant ha ha after seeing the US store.

I can not seem to find it or get it to work.

Hover over any album cover on the store main page - a small "i" icon appears in the bottom right of the album cover. Click this and it brings up a new window where you can preview the track without drilling down.

So what features are there that are actually worth talking about/using?

I got all excited about the LP thing until I realised it only applied to albums bought from the store. Bah - I never buy from the apple store. The audio quality is ****e.

Not that I buy music from the store myself but, the bit rate has been upped from 128 to 192kbps in the last few months.

Its all now available at 256 kbps AAC and has been for ages

The colour scheme is awful.

I downloaded the new 3.1 software for the iPhone too. Not sure which is to blame, iTunes 9 or iPhone 3.1 but the backup took a very long time when syncing the phone.

Just went to add some new stuff to itunes and found a folder in music called "automatically add to itunes". Anything you put in it does exactly that. No more copy, paste, add new file shenanigans. Created a desktop shortcut and is fecken sweet!

Apparantly backup takes friggin ages now? I've seen more than one post here - and other fora - that confirms this.

+1 - the white background in grid view hurts my eyes. What the !&#* were they thinking? None of the user skins like "silent night" work either . So we're stuck with it for now...

What does anyone make of the genius mixes?

I think its kinda cool, it sorts your musics into genre and plays them like a sorta radio station just using your music. You cant change the order or anything but if you just think of it as a radio station its quite a novel idea.

The sorting of the music is actual spot on as well. For example all the stuff like nirvana, ramones and sex pistols in my library are in one alternative and punk mix where as stuff like blur oasis and artic monkeys are in another alternative and punk mix. So the songs in the mixes complement each other nicely.

I like them. Genius has been pretty crap for me in the past because I have a lot of oddball and obscure stuff in my library but the mixes do indeed seem to split stuff into groupings that do work (though I've still noticed the odd track that has nothing to do with the rest of the mix creep in). I quite like it for listening through the day at work - especially with a huge library, it totally works like a radio station. A cool improvement all in all.

agree that Genius is much improved. Itunes LP format looks interesting, number of albums limited at the moment (only 6 I think!) not that it matters here as they can't be purchased in the Irish store. Why? And when are we going to get TV and Film in the Irish store?

I've a lot of 'movies' (lovin the update, apple ) on my ipod, wouldn't mind a cover flow for these.

I've never been a fan of the whole genius thing tbh, i never use it on iTunes although i have this morning created a genius playlist on my iPhone using a U2 track and so far its given me some decent Verve tracks and Muse etc so i could perhaps use it more often.


what i do like about the new iTunes is it lets you sort out the application order on the springboard on my phone, and seeing as i have 5 pages worth, it comes in pretty handy, thing is i havnt actually sat down yet and done it

ugh...ick...I'm not liking iTunes 9 at all.... it is aesthetically horrible.. You've got the artists column on the left, you click on the artist you want, it brings up EVERYthing by them, no album name list like in iTunes 8.... AAAGGGHHHH!!!!

Nothing in itunes 9 so far has convinced me it was worth upgrading.
